Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book provides a theoretical and historical examination of the evolution and role of banking within modern society. The author argues banking represents a specialized technique in the supply of capital, serving as a commerce in capital, akin to how traditional commerce functions in relation to goods. This commerce involves gathering capital, maintaining it, and distributing it, and is divided into commercial banking and investment banking. Crucially, the book demonstrates how, under earlier economic systems, banking did not - and could not - exist in its present form. Instead, it emerged as a product of social, economic, and technological developments, particularly with the rise of industrialization and the need for increased capital equipment. Banking's role in the contemporary economy is analyzed through the lens of its historical evolution, shedding light on its ongoing significance in the present day. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…

Taschenbuch. Condición: Neu. Neuware - 'Investment Trusts, American Experience' provides a comprehensive analysis of the development and operation of investment trusts within the United States during the early 20th century. Written by William Howard Steiner, this work examines the evolution of these financial vehicles, contrasting the American approach with European models and detailing their rapid growth during the 1920s. The text delves into the structural organization, management strategies, and regulatory environments that shaped the industry during a pivotal era in American economic history.Steiner offers a meticulous study of investment policies, capital structures, and the role of investment trusts in the broader financial markets. By evaluating the performance and risks associated with these entities, the work serves as a significant historical record of pre-Depression financial theory and practice. For scholars of finance and economic history, 'Investment Trusts, American Experience' remains an essential resource for understanding the foundations of collective investment and the institutional shifts that defined the American financial landscape prior to the implementation of modern securities regulation. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
