Añadir al carritoFirst Edition. First edition to include Grey's annotations and preface. Two octavo volumes. Nineteenth-century red straight-grained morocco; gilt titling and rules; xxxvi, [42], 424pp; 446, [24]pp. Frontispiece portrait of Butler to v.I; 16 inserted leaves of engraved plates (several folding) after Hogarth, as called for. Straight and tight in an attractive 19th-century binding. A few brief contemporary marginal comments in an unknown hand; dampstaining to base of both spines extending to bottom margin and gutter of first and final dozen leaves of each volume; otherwise a very clean and sound set. Includes the substantial subscriber list; Samuel Johnson is listed among the subscribers. This edition of Hudibras was not without controversy. The plates by Hogarth are excellent, and well-enough printed that Brunet commented upon their quality: ESTC T2679. LOWNDES 355. BRUNET I,1427-28.…
