Uncommon Boni & Liveright anthology of literary and biographical puzzles featuring original contributions by Alexander Woollcott, Richard Connell, Kathleen Norri…s, Will Irwin, Inez Haynes Irwin, Theodore W. Case, and numerous other journalists, novelists, and public figures of the 1920s. Each contributor anonymously describes a person, place, or thing through a series of clues, with the solutions supplied separately. Snugly bound in ribbed yellow cloth stamped in black with titles to the spine and an Art Deco design of a human profile formed entirely from question marks to the cover. Pictorial dust jacket with publisher's $1.50 issue price intact to the unclipped front flap lacks the upper two inches of the spine panel, including the title lettering. Prior owner ink stamp and later purchase notation to the front flyleaf. Contents are bright, fresh, and unmarked. VG++/VG-.

Porträt- und Industriefotograf W. Connell (1898-1961) brachte sich das Fotografieren selbst bei und eröffnete später ein Studio in der Innenstadt von Los Angeles. In den späten 1920er Jahren arbeitete er für verschiedene Zeitschriften (Life, Sunset, Time, US Camera u. Vogue). In den frühen 1930er Jahren arbeitete Connell hauptsächlich als Glamour- und Werbefotograf für verschiedene Filmstudios, darunter Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer und Republic Studios. Während dieser Zeit fotografierte er auch häufig Landschaften in der Umgebung von Los Angeles. Connell war ein enger Freund des Architekten Lloyd Wright, dem Sohn von Frank Lloyd Wright und dokumentierte einen Großteil von dessen Arbeit. Nach dem Krieg arbeitete er als Industrie-Fotograf. - Deckel berieben, gebräunt und zum Teil aus der Metallring-Heftung gelöst, ohne den Schuber, innen gut erhalten. Sprache: englisch.
