Añadir al carritoDecorative Cloth. Condición: Good. Tuffen West & W West Ilustrador. A good copy of a later undated edition in a blue decorative cloth binding with a gilt decoration of a spider on the front board, and gilt titles to the spine. It was part of Reeve's Crown Natural History Series - designed to encourage students and amateur enthusiasts to study nature more deeply. Eliza Fanny Staveley (1831-1903) was the first woman to publish a work on spiders. The binding is bright and clean with slight dulling to the spider on the front board, which has a couple of tiny pale marks and light wear to the corners. The spine is darkened and the spine ends are pulled and a little faded. The back board has a small bump to the bottom corner tip. The original black endpapers are present without mark. Contents with initial blank; half title, title, contents and plate list, errata pp xvi; text pp 1-286; 16 plates with explanatory text - 2 black and white, 14 coloured; and publisher's catalogue at the rear. The plates are by Tuffen and William West. The book was clearly owned by an enthusiast who has added scholarly pencil annotation throughout. The contents are clean but with light foxing and darkening to the page edges. The plates are generally clean with some very pale notes against the descriptions to plates III and IV and a couple of pale marks on plate IV. There are 2 old photographs which have become a bit blurred with time, but probably relate to an ink recording on the first page of the catalogue about the sighting of a male and female E cucurbitina.
