Stated: "CRACKED Magazine is published monthly except February, April, and June." Founded by Sol Brodsky, "Cracked," was a deliberate imitator of MAD Magazine. MAD featured Alfred E. Neuman and Cracked featured a simple-minded janitor named Sylvester P. Smythe. A typical issue of Cracked Magazine featured two TV or movie parodies. In the mid-1970's Cracked expanded into international markets. In 2001 the publication suffered the impact of an anthrax scare. An anonymous letter carrying the powder was sent to American Media, Inc., where one employee was killed. Cracked offices were housed in this same building. They were forced to evacuate the offices and destroy their archives, including their original photographic prints from all issues 1958 through 2000. An attempt to revive the publication was never able to reach fruition. Magazine has full color glossy wraps bound over B&W paper by two staples. Free gifts advertised are present. No.1 is on reverse of cover, no.2 on cardboard stapled in center of magazine, however one of the two postcards is missing. Interior is otherwise complete, tight, clean and unmarked. 50pp. Copyright 1977. Printed in U.S.A. Assumed only edition in a single printing. Publisher's code: 14254. MSR = US $0.60. Analog Science Fiction and Fact, July, 1990. New York: Davis Publications, 1990. 12mo, illustrated perfect-bound wraps, 192 pp. Cover by William R. Warren, Jr. Very Good; modest signs of cover handling, touch wear points around binding, and of course the inevitable age-toning of the paper used in all pulp fiction productions, unique to the inexpensive types of paper used for that classic American form, moderate and inoffensive. Pages are supple. Tiny, ancient price sticker on rear cover. Herein: 'Naught for Hire' (John E. Sith), 'Madummara's World' (George W. Harper), 'The Trojan Hostage' (Christopher Anvil), 'A Question of Balance' (Kevin O'Donnell Jr.), 'Godspeed' (Charles Sheffield), and more. Art by William R. Warren, Jr.; Bob Walters; Anthony Bari; et al. Also, science fact, as always. See scan of contents page. A collectible example of this issue of the the 1990 format of a very long-lived series of American science fiction publications - but you know about that. Condition is probably as solid as any you'll be likely to find. Ships in stout protection, of course. L103.

Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Fine. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Fine. Boyd, Bob (color art work); Ethell, Julie (book design) Ilustrador. 1st Edition. Fine condition orange boards with gold spine lettering contained in a fine condition non price-clipped color photographic dust jacket. Includes Author Dedication; Foreword by Robert S. Johnson; Acknowledgments; Introduction and Index. Chapter Headings are as follows: 1. Arsenal of Democracy: The Calm Before the Storm; 2. Home Front War: Building and Training for Combat; 3. Winning Without Guns: Transports, Reconnaissance & Liaison; 4. Little Friends and Fighter Bombers: Guarding Big Friends, Then "Down To Earth"; 5. Big Friends and Flying Artillery: Relentless Air Warfare Against The Axis. Profusely illustrated with 225 Kodachrome color photographs, twelve 22-inch color photographic foldout pages and four Bob Boyd color profiles (and no cross-guttered images). "For the past several years Jeffrey Ethell has been known for his remarkable success in finding elusive and rare World War II color Kodachrome slides, all shot by veterans who were involved. Incredibly, the more he finds, the more they surface. In writing several books using this treasure, he has long desired to produce a history of wartime aviation, the ultimate aircraft lover's window to the past, using his most impressive and vivid images, without restraint. Thanks to the foresight and enthusiasm of Warren Bodie at Widewing Publications, War Eagles is the amazing result. With 225 Kodachromes, twelve 22-inch foldout pages, four Bob Boyd color profiles and no cross-guttered images, the book traces that amazing period from 1939 through 1945 when aviation was driven by nations trying to best each other in the sky. Industry finally left its nostalgic love affair with wood and fabric to build sleek aluminum stressed skin machines capable of undreamed of speeds and altitudes. Until the author began finding such a long-overlooked wealth of color, that era has remained shrouded in black and white. Unlike modern color film, ASA 10 Kodachrome had five emulsions and was virtually grainless. As a result, the images are so strikingly clear and free of distortion some find it hard to believe the original slides have not been computer enhanced or colorized. The author and the publisher guarantee they have not tampered with the images in any way. The reader is looking straight into the past as it was. In the author's opinion, modern film pales by comparison in quality and depth of color. And, unlike other current warbird books, not a single recently restored aircraft is featured. Accurate, hard-hitting, vivid text and extended captions match the beautifully reproduced images in impact. As this 50-year-old Kodachrome keeps appearing in an archival adventure that reads like a Hollywood script, War Eagles is planned to be the first of many Widewing books on World War II in unprecedented full color." - from the inner front jacket flap.

"Here is a powerful selection of fiction and nonfiction mirroring the Negro experience in America. The time sequence of the book extends from the midnight of slave time to now - 11 P.M. (when 'for America this may be the last opportunity she has to deal with black Americans and negotiate. Before the terrifying prospects of internal strife, armed suppression and needless destruction descend fully upon us all.' - Whitney M. Young, Jr.). The changes in black and white consciousness over the years are clearly evident in this clockwise turn of fiction and events". Contributors include James Baldwin, Claude Brown, T.R.
