Añadir al carritoHardbound. Condición: Very Good -. First Edition. Shipping and trading conglomerate Dodwell & Co. ('Dodwell's') was a very close third behind Jardine Matheson and Swire in plying the China trade in the latter half of the 19th, and early 20th, centuries. Originally named W. R. Adamson & Co. with headquarters in Shanghai, it was founded on the trade of tea and silk from China to the West, and was the first of the great British merchant houses to venture into Japan. Management changes in the late 19th century led to its renaming as Dodwell's. In the early 20th century, it maintained its strength as the tea trade waned by leveraging its connections to Japan. Following the interregnum of WWII, Dodwell's diversified its interests and geographic presence; the company remained active until a takeover by Inchcape in 1972. The present volume, published on the 100th anniversary of its founding, details the history and accomplishments of the corporation and the careers of the executives who drove it to success. Quarter leather over blue boards, light wear to spine, spotting on top fore-edges. Interior pages clean and unmarked. ix, 160 pp., 2 col. and 12 b&w plates, endpaper maps. Size: 24 x 18 cm.
