Tesla was born in a bustling pastor's home in Smiljan, Croatia, in 1856, and he died in a room at the Hotel New Yorker in 1943 - alone with his carrier pigeons resting in baskets on his desk. In this full-length biography by Helen Walters, Tesla's interest in science is seen as he sits a by a flowing creek, vaguely sensing the power he constructs a water wheel. Later as a man he invents the principle of rotary magnetic fields in the apparatus used for harnessing power from Niagara Falls.
