Inscribed by the author's daughter Grace Knight Babson. Richard Knight (1806-1890) was born in England into a Non-Conformist family. He found his avoca…tion in preaching, which landed him in prison in Germany. Upon his release he emigrated with his wife and family to America. He preached in a number of New England Presbyterian Churches, his last being in Holyoke, Massachusetts. He became involved in the New England Emmigrant Aid Company as a chaplain for a group of a hundred people intent on settling in Kansas to help make it a free state. As a delegate to the First Constitutional Convention of Kansas he laid the groundwork for its higher education. He was friends with John Brown and other abolitionists. When preaching during this time he often wore a sword and pistols. His daughter married Robert Babson and this book was printed to tell his story at the dedication of the Richard Knight Auditorium at Babson College.
