Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: Very Good. The first monograph on the influential contemporary CubanAmerican interdisciplinary artist and writer Coco Fusco. Tomorrow, I will become an island is the first in-depth study of the performances, videos and social practice of the influential CubanAmerican artist Coco Fusco. Featuring contributions by renowned scholars of art history, performance art and Cuban cultural politics as well as an essay by the artist herself, the book offers a comprehensive review of Fuscos interdisciplinary art practice and her transnational perspective on race, gender and power. For more than three decades, Fusco has been a leader in conversations around the intersection of identity, feminism, culture, and politics in the Americas and beyond. Emerging during the 1980s as a pioneering advocate of multiculturalism in the arts, Fusco utilizes performance, video, exhibition making, archival research and writing to reflect upon the ways that intercultural relations and colonial histories shape the construction of the self and perceptions of cultural difference. Her work has critically examined society from a postcolonial perspective, engaging with debates about cultural politics throughout the Americas, Europe and elsewhere. This expansive approach is highlighted through a broad range of works that address themes including post-revolutionary Cuba, racial stereotypes, feminist politics, animal psychology, ethnographic displays, suppressed colonial records, military interrogation and sex tourism. The book will accompany an international touring retrospective of the artists work starting in 2023. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Añadir al carritohardcover. Condición: Good. Our good condition books are generally good for reading but not for gifting or collecting. They could have imperfections such as creasing, fanning, inscriptions, margin notes, yellowing, staining on edge or cover or pages, bumps, scuffs, etc etc (sometimes multiple of these). It's a wide category that encompasses anything that isn't almost-new down to anything that is slightly better than poor. We would NOT recommend gifting Good books - these should be considered reading copies. Our books are dispatched from a Yorkshire former cotton mill. We list via barcode/ISBN so please note that the images are stock images and may not be the exact copy you receive, furthermore the details about edition and year might not be accurate as many publishers reuse the same ISBN for multiple editions and as we simply scan a barcode or enter an ISBN we do not check the validity of the edition data when listing. If you're looking for an exact edition please don't order (at least not without checking with us first, although we don't always have time to check). We aim to dispatch prompty, the service used will depend on order value and book size. We can ship to most countries, see our shipping policies. Payment is via Abe only.

Exhibition held at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C., June 20 to September 15, 1996. Firm binding, clean inside copy. *** "The Hirshhorn's landmark show 'Distemper' defined what may be the last major art trend of the 20th century -- the prevailing sense of social and cultural dismay that Washington columnist E.J. Dionne called the 'distemper' of the 1990s. This brilliant exhibition catalog presents the work of ten younger artists whose work reflects the distemper of the times: Miroslaw Balka, Marlene Dumas, Robert Gober, Mona Hatoum, Mike Kelley, Guillermo Kuitca, Charles Ray, Doris Salcedo, Thomas Schutte, and Rachel Whiteread. Together, they represent a wide swath of the globe, from Europe and the Americas to Africa and the Middle East. Although their artistic agendas vary widely, they share a sense of being cultural barometers." - Publisher. *** CONTENTS: Distemper: dissonant themes in the art of the 1990s, by Neal Benezra and Olga M.
