Among them we have the signals coming from sensors (electro-mechanical, electro-magnetic, electro-chemical, electro-acoustic, electro-optical, etc.), the signals coming from antennas being produced by another electronic system or are simply cosmic produced, and signals that are generated within the electronic systems. The common property of most of the signals is their small amplitude. In many cases it is below a micro-volt. Since at the output of the system we most frequently need a high amplitude signal the main action undertaken in the electronic system before any further processing is to amplify.

First, it is of interest to obtain large signals (current or voltage) at the output of a cascade of direct coupled amplifiers. In this case, linearity, frequency response, and speed are the most important requirements. Second are real power amplifiers where the power delivered to the load is of primary interest. Of course, efficiency, linearity, and high frequency response are of interest, too. A very special attention is paid to modern power electronic components such as Power BJT, VDMOS, IGBT, SiC MOS, and GaN HEMT. DC and switching properties of all these devices are studied in much detail. This book also includes a set of appendices which cover: solved problems, SPICE simulation results for selected set of circuits, and a short review of microelectronic technology process.

He graduated from the Faculty of Electronic Engineering in Nis in 1970 and obtained his M.Sc. in 1974 and his Ph.D. in 1977. He was appointed as a teaching assistant at the Faculty…of Electronic Engineering in 1970 and became a full professor at the same faculty in 1987. He was elected as a visiting professor (honoris causa) at the University of Southampton in 1999. From 1987 until 1990, he was a consultant to the CEO of Ei and was the head of the Chair of Electronics at the Faculty of Electronic Engineering in Nis for 12 years. From 2015 to 2017, he was a researcher at the University of Bath. He received several awards including from the Faculty of Electronic Engineering (Charter in 1980, Charter in 1985, and a Special Recognition in 1995) and the University of Nis (Plaque 1985).

All the chapters… discuss the theoretical background and explain the underlying algorithms including the iterative numerical procedures necessary to obtain the solutions.It starts by considering polynomial filters, offering a broad range of solutions and introducing critical monotonic passband amplitude characteristics (CMAC). It also describes modifications to the classical Chebyshev and elliptic filters to overcome their limitations. In the context linear phase low-pass prototypes, it presents filters approximating constant group delay in the equi-ripple manner for the first time. Further, it discusses new procedures to improve the selectivity of all polynomial filters by introducing transmission zeros, such as filters with multiple transmissionzeros on the omega axis, as well as phase correction of selective filters for both low-pass and band-pass filters. Other topics explored include linear phase all-pass (exhibiting low-pass group delay approximation) filters; all-pass filters (exhibiting band-pass group delay approximation) with linear and parabolic phase synthesized directly as band-pass; high-pass, and band-stop amplitude characteristic frequency transformations to produce band-pass; and direct synthesis of linear and parabolic phase selective band-pass filters synthesized directly as band-pass. Lastly, for system (physical) synthesis, the book describes the algorithms and procedures for the following: cascade passive LC; active cascade RC; active parallel RC (for the first time); active parallel SC; Gm-C based on LC prototypes; and parallel IIR based on bilinear transformation of analog prototypes.Every algorithm, be it in transfer function synthesis or in system synthesis, is accompanied by a proper nontrivialcomprehensive example produced by the RM software.

Analogue filters are an inevitable part of the chain of signal processing in modern radio and telecommunication systems. This technology allows for integration of the filter into a CMOS system-on-chip so making it very attractive for application in low-power (battery operated) devices. All the chapters discus…s the theoretical background and explain the underlying algorithms including the iterative numerical procedures necessary to obtain the solutions.It starts by considering polynomial filters, offering a broad range of solutions and introducing critical monotonic passband amplitude characteristics (CMAC). It also describes modifications to the classical Chebyshev and elliptic filters to overcome their limitations. In the context linear phase low-pass prototypes, it presents filters approximating constant group delay in the equi-ripple manner for the first time. Further, it discusses new procedures to improve the selectivity of all polynomial filters by introducing transmission zeros, such as filters with multiple transmissionzeros on the omega axis, as well as phase correction of selective filters for both low-pass and band-pass filters. Other topics explored include linear phase all-pass (exhibiting low-pass group delay approximation) filters; all-pass filters (exhibiting band-pass group delay approximation) with linear and parabolic phase synthesized directly as band-pass; high-pass, and band-stop amplitude characteristic frequency transformations to produce band-pass; and direct synthesis of linear and parabolic phase selective band-pass filters synthesized directly as band-pass. Lastly, for system (physical) synthesis, the book describes the algorithms and procedures for the following: cascade passive LC; active cascade RC; active parallel RC (for the first time); active parallel SC; Gm-C based on LC prototypes; and parallel IIR based on bilinear transformation of analog prototypes.Every algorithm, be it in transfer function synthesis or in system synthesis, is accompanied by a proper nontrivialcomprehensive example produced by the RM software.

Large signal amplifiers are dealing with signals whose magnitude is such that the operation of the active element can no longer be considered linear. They are usually des…igned to get as much power gain and efficiency as possible. That is why they are often called power amplifiers. In this book, two implementations of PA are considered. First, it is of interest to obtain large signals (current or voltage) at the output of a cascade of direct coupled amplifiers. In this case, linearity, frequency response, and speed are the most important requirements. Second are real power amplifiers where the power delivered to the load is of primary interest. Of course, efficiency, linearity, and high frequency response are of interest, too.
