Concluding, this paper will try to assess the gathered insights and try to embed the issue in the macro-social discourse of national identity and the strengthening of far-right movements in Germany.

It seeks to analyze the history of photographic technology as a means of depicting the environment in early-antropological expeditions taking place in the time period of fin de siècle in the late 19th century. In order to study this anthroplogical method of research, Malinowski's Trobriand expedition serves as the centerpiece of research of historical narrative and technological development. The introduction of photography had certain consequences for the established method of documentation and visual representation on anthropological and ethnographical expeditions: painting. But was the introduction of photography really the death of painting Bronislaw Malinowski's Trobriand expedition serves as the example to answer all those questions, because of its unique characteristics and circumstances. Malinowski's friend and famous polish painter (and later photographer) Ignacy Witkiewicz joins the expedition on invitation by Malinowski. The resulting paintings of Witkacy (ignacy Witkiewicz) 'pejsaz australijski' have inspired this work to examine the changing work and shifting academic standards of anthropological expedition and ethnographic research. Following the entanglements of methodological research and questions of academic integrity and neutrality of anthropological research, this work aims to depict a complicated, yet important topic of the historical ramifications between environment and technology that is a constant aspect of how we live as humans. Sometimes with, and sometimes against our environment, but it has and will always play a part in our lives.

In order to narrow the scope, this work will focus on narratives of hypothetical and counterfactual nature, drawing on a cultural scientific theory of decision-making. Whereas hypothetical narratives leverage consequences of decisions, counterfactuals focus on the contingent nature of decisions by highlighting not-selected alternatives within the decision-making process and their potential outcomes. Within the field of data-based technology, such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the decision making surrounding the technology, both hypothetical future scenarios and their counterfactual counterparts can be identified. While hypotheticals focus on anticipating future developments of a technology with unclear capabilities, counterfactual narratives are used to fix shortcomings in the past by providing a seemingly universally applicable solution. Both narratives create distorted impressions of the usefulness and prowess of Artificial Intelligence.Counterfactual and hypothetical narratives justifying the decision by the US military to deploy data-based technology will be examined from a standpoint of cultural-scientific analysis of decision-making. The integration of these technologies into the realm of warfare was initiated under a unique constellation of social and political structures that are intertwined with the decision-making process. Investigating the circumstances in which a decision was made will enable the examination of narratives that justify the decision. The decision to implement a technology should be supported by a strategic necessity. It also ought to be preceded by establishing sufficient infrastructure to and enable the technology to fulfil its intended role. Moreover, narratives justifying the decision are meant to ward off criticism of blindly integrating AI into military applications. By providing exemplary criticism detailing possible consequences of the decision in warfare, the validity of narratives defending the decision is questioned. These referenced phenomena detail how civilians and non-combatants are increasingly put at risk and expose loopholes that could be used to violate International Human Law while avoiding direct responsibility for one's actions.

Nicht nur die Soziologie der Katastrophen gelangt angesichts eines so tiefgreifend bedeutenden Ereignisses an ihre Grenzen. Auch eine Einordnung der Einsamkeitserfahrung im Rahmen einer soziologischen Betrachtung der Einsamkeit ist sehr aufschlussreich. Hinzu kommt eine Hypothese, die das soziologische Phänomen der Nothingness und die Ästhetisierung dieser in Form einer minimalistischen Lebensweise als eigentlichen Vorteil der Mittelschicht für eine komfortable Einsamkeitserfahrung in Isolation in den Mittelpunkt stellt. Die Privilegien dieser gesellschaftlichen Gruppe leiten über zu den neuen Ansätzen der Soziologie der Katastrophen, die formuliert wurden, um das vorherrschende globale Ungleichgewicht finanzieller und politischer Ressourcen stärker in den Fokus der Soziologie der Katastrophen zu rücken. Dabei soll im Besonderen auf die Frage eingegangen werden, wie eine Gravitas des Todes im Vergleich zu anderen Videospielen hergestellt werden kann. Dazu werden ausgewählte Aspekte von anderen Videospielen beispielhaft herangezogen, um die Besonderheiten des Videospiels Destiny 2 zu veranschaulichen, in der Hoffnung auf ein Innovationspotenzial im Bereich der Darstellung des Todes in Videospielen zu verweisen. Dabei wird es zunächst wichtig sein, eine theoretische Grundlage für den Tod in Videospielen zu schaffen. Ausgehend von einer transmedialen Darstellung des Todes, wird es insbesondere um den Simulationsaspekt von Videospielen gehen. Dieser Simulationsaspekt schafft nicht nur eine besonderen Erfahrbarkeit des Todes, sondern ist auch verknüpft mit einer thanatologische Perspektive, sowie der ästhetischen Gestaltung des Todes. Eine Simulation der Erlebbarkeit des Todes sieht sich notwendigerweise de Fragen nach einer authentischen Erlebnisgrundlage konfrontiert. Wie es Videospiele trotzdem schaffen, sich mithilfe ihrer besonderen temporalen Eigenschaften, solchen Vorwürfen zu entziehen und wie die dabei geschaffene virtuelle Subjektivität dennoch ein Bewusstsein für die Unausweichbarkeit des eigenen Ablebens fördert, soll dabei genauer analysiert werden. Nach diesen theoretischen Grundlagen der Logik des digitalen Todes soll im weiteren Verlauf eine phänomenologische Analyse des Videospiels Destiny 2 folgen, die anhand ausgewählter Schwerpunkte eine Erfahrbarkeit des Todes in eben diesem Videospiel genauer beleuchtet. Die Ergebnisse der phänomenologischen Analyse werden, im Zusammenhang mit den vorausgegangenen theoretischen Grundlagen, ein zu erschließendes Potenzial möglicher Innovationen im Bereich der digitalen Darstellung des Todes aufzeigen. Ein weiterer Schwerpunkt soll dabei immer wieder auch die Gravitas des digitalen Todes abbilden, weshalb insbesondere Aspekte von PermaDeath-, sowie PermaLife-Spielen reflektiert werden sollen.

Nicht nur die Soziologie der Katastrophen gelangt angesichts eines so tiefgreifend bedeutenden Ereignisses an ihre Grenzen. Auch eine Einordnung der Einsamkeitserfahrung im Rahmen einer soziologischen Betrachtung der Einsamkeit ist sehr aufschlussreich. Hinzu kommt eine Hypothese, die das soziologische Phänomen der Nothingness und die Ästhetisierung dieser in Form einer minimalistischen Lebensweise als eigentlichen Vorteil der Mittelschicht für eine komfortable Einsamkeitserfahrung in Isolation in den Mittelpunkt stellt. Die Privilegien dieser gesellschaftlichen Gruppe leiten über zu den neuen Ansätzen der Soziologie der Katastrophen, die formuliert wurden, um das vorherrschende globale Ungleichgewicht finanzieller und politischer Ressourcen stärker in den Fokus der Soziologie der Katastrophen zu rücken. Schließlich stellt sich die Frage, warum nur eine begrenzte Anzahl der Bevölkerung in Deutschland von den verhängten Maßnahmen profitieren konnte.Endlich eine Kritik der Corona-Maßnahmen basierend auf soziologischen Theorien und psychologischen Grundsätzen. Dabei soll im Besonderen auf die Frage eingegangen werden, wie eine Gravitas des Todes im Vergleich zu anderen Videospielen hergestellt werden kann. Dazu werden ausgewählte Aspekte von anderen Videospielen beispielhaft herangezogen, um die Besonderheiten des Videospiels Destiny 2 zu veranschaulichen, in der Hoffnung auf ein Innovationspotenzial im Bereich der Darstellung des Todes in Videospielen zu verweisen. Dabei wird es zunächst wichtig sein, eine theoretische Grundlage für den Tod in Videospielen zu schaffen. Ausgehend von einer transmedialen Darstellung des Todes, wird es insbesondere um den Simulationsaspekt von Videospielen gehen. Dieser Simulationsaspekt schafft nicht nur eine besonderen Erfahrbarkeit des Todes, sondern ist auch verknüpft mit einer thanatologische Perspektive, sowie der ästhetischen Gestaltung des Todes. Eine Simulation der Erlebbarkeit des Todes sieht sich notwendigerweise de Fragen nach einer authentischen Erlebnisgrundlage konfrontiert. Wie es Videospiele trotzdem schaffen, sich mithilfe ihrer besonderen temporalen Eigenschaften, solchen Vorwürfen zu entziehen und wie die dabei geschaffene virtuelle Subjektivität dennoch ein Bewusstsein für die Unausweichbarkeit des eigenen Ablebens fördert, soll dabei genauer analysiert werden. Nach diesen theoretischen Grundlagen der Logik des digitalen Todes soll im weiteren Verlauf eine phänomenologische Analyse des Videospiels Destiny 2 folgen, die anhand ausgewählter Schwerpunkte eine Erfahrbarkeit des Todes in eben diesem Videospiel genauer beleuchtet. Die Ergebnisse der phänomenologischen Analyse werden, im Zusammenhang mit den vorausgegangenen theoretischen Grundlagen, ein zu erschließendes Potenzial möglicher Innovationen im Bereich der digitalen Darstellung des Todes aufzeigen.
