A collection of caricature and political illustrations published in Germany aimed against the Treaty of Versailles and the reparations placed upon Germany after the first world war. First edition. Original burgundy boards, with a caricature of an octopus strangling the world to the front cover, and death embracing the world to the rear panel. The book is in sound condition but with a little rubbing and marking to the covers. Very small area of loss to the top edge of the spine. Internally clean and tidy throughout, but with moderate darkening to the edges. 22 pages. There were also editions printed in English at the same time. 32cm x 24cm. Introduction to the first few pages in German. .

Graphiker Wilhelm Thöny (1888-1949) erhielt seine künstlerische Ausbildung 1906-08 an der Landeskunstschule in Graz sowie bei Gabriel Hackl und Angelo Jank an der Münchner Kunstakademie. 1913 war Thöny Mitbegründer der Neuen Sezession in München. Als Mitglied des Vereins bildender Künstler der Steiermark wurde er 1923 Mitbegründer und erster Präsident der Grazer Sezession. 1931-38 lebte er in Frankreich, danach in New York. Thöny war vor 1914 vor allem als Buchillustrator tätig; später schuf er Landschaften, Städte- und Figurenbilder sowie Porträts in einem spätimpressionistisch-expressiven Stil. - Einband etw. berieben, bestoßen, braunrandig u. fleckig. ge Gewicht in Gramm: 1000 4°.
