These extraordinary catalogs of of 397, respectively 316 items of jewelry designed by Joel Rosenthal, presented in color photography by Katharina Faerber on 397 plates in JAR, Jozsef Tari on 316 plates in JAR II. The majority of plates feature one item per plate with several plates two, respectively three images. The Harvard graduate Joel Rosenthal moved to Paris after his graduation in 1966, he had majored in art history and philosophy, to engage in various endeavors, including writing movie scripts, designing tapestry, and opening a small shop. On his return to New York he briefly worked for Bulgari, but in 1977 returned to Paris to found the firm JAR with his partner Pierre Jeannet. Rosenthal quickly established himself as a jewelry designer and became famous for his vibrant colors and organic shapes. His jewelry was exhibited at the famous Somerset House exhibition in London in 2002, showcasing some 400 of his designs. In 2013 the only other exhibition of his jewelry was staged at the New York Metropolitain Museum of Art.
