A very rare mid-twentieth-century Dominican Breviary issued under the authority of Fr. Emmanuel Suarez, Master General of the Order of Preachers. Printed according to the traditional Dominican rite and incorporating the liturgical reforms promulgated under Pope Pius X, this substantial two-volume set represents the official daily office of the Dominican Order immediately prior to the liturgical changes of the Second Vatican Council. The present copy contains the Vulgate Psalter and represents the form of the Dominican Divine Office immediately preceding the far-reaching liturgical changes of the later twentieth century. At the time of cataloguing, no other complete set of this 1947 edition has been traced on the market, making this a remarkable opportunity for collectors of Dominican liturgical books, ecclesiastical history, and pre-conciliar Catholic printing.
