Soft orange card covers with embossed crest design to front, ribbon tie to edge, minor rubbing/chipping to edges/spine, some soiling/darkening. Contents clean and ti…ght but for very slight soiling. B&W photos by Stewart Bale, and colour illustrations throughout, including one fold-out illustration by Frank H Mason. Includes colour reproductions of decoration from around the ship, including pieces by William McDowell, Charles Pears and Winifred O Humphreys. Text describing the newly launched liner by H T W Bousfield. A look at the luxurious liner launched by Cunard White Star in 1938. A nice copy. The RMS Mauretania launched in 1938, just prior to the start of WWII. She was requisitioned by the government and in 1940 took part in the Convoy US 3, one of the largest Australian & New Zealand troop convoys of the war. During the war, the Mauretania travelled over540,000 miles and carried more than 340,000 troops. After the war she was used as a cruise ship, and was eventually retired in 1966. Internally near fine and free of inscriptions; copiously illustrated with tipped-in photographs of personnel associated with the formation and man…agement of the bank including Neville Chamberlain who first conceived the idea of the bank and was its first chairman and the then General Manager J P Hilton. In addition there are may photographs of the bank and features of the building as well as of some of its various branches; the only blemish is that the frontispiece photograph of the General Manager has been stuck on the flyleaf with four dabs of paste which have seeped through to the verso; 83pp. A very attractive copy associated with this was the first Municipal Savings Bank in Britain.
