Softcover. Condición: Fair. First Edition.

Amsterdam, Amsterdam University Press, [2022]. 311 pp. Col. & b./w. ills. Orig. hardcover (boards). 8vo. [ISBN: 9789463726580]. The struggle for independence in Indonesia between 1945 and 1949 has left its mark, both literally and figuratively. Through images and text, the authors take the reader on a journey through people, objects, and places in Indonesia and the Netherlands. This bilingual Indonesian/Dutch book revolves around the personal experiences of civilians and soldiers who witnessed the conflict firsthand. It explores how people from both countries look back on that time and whether memories of it are kept alive or not. In this way, the authors restore the human dimension to an intriguing history. What choices did witnesses and contemporaries make at the time, to whom did they remain loyal, and why? How do their experiences live on in the present, and what significance does that period hold now, not only for themselves but also for others for whom that history is important.…
