Taschenbuch. Condición: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -The role of androgens in development of male reproductive organs is well documented. The role of estrogens in the development of male reproductive organs remains largely unknown; although both estrogen receptors and aromatase enzyme have been identified in the developing penis of a number of species, including humans. Male offspring of women exposed to diethylstilbestrol during pregnancy have higher incidences of epididymal cysts, cryptorchidism, hypospadiasis, and smaller testes. Since female hormones were routinely prescribed to treat threatened pregnancy and considering the potential implications of female hormones during prenatal period on the development of male reproductive system, the present book describes the effect of prenatal exposure to progesterone on adult male reproduction. Significant deterioration in reproduction was observed in mice exposed to progesterone during embryonic development which includes reduction in steroidogenesis and spermatogenesis. Testosterone supplementation during post-natal period partially restored the suppressed reproduction. This book provides valuable information to those working in mammalian reproduction and also to the interested layman. 148 pp. Englisch.…

Taschenbuch. Condición: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Deterioration of male reproductive health is one of the rising problems in the recent past. Many reproductive malformations including retention of nipples, abnormal sexual behavior, birth defects, decreased spermatogenesis, reduced gonad weights and sub-fertility/ infertility have been reported in laboratory animals and wildlife exposed to endocrine disrupting chemicals. It has been reported that many pollutants act as endocrine disrupting chemicals and capable of affecting reproduction. It is also believed that, reproductive disorders are thought to originate in developing stages of the fetus s life in the womb and continue to occur throughout the reproduction. Exposure to xenobiotics during early stages of life is of particular concern since embryos are highly sensitive to toxicants. Vinclozolin is a systemic dicarboximide fungicide used to control the fungus by inhibiting the spore germination on several fruits and vegetables. We have evaluated and presented data in this book whether vinclozolin has any significant effect on reproduction in adult male rat. This book also provides valuable information on prenatal exposure to vinclozolin on changes in reproduction in adult rats. 152 pp. Englisch. …

Taschenbuch. Condición: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Aflatoxins are toxic metabolites produced mainly by Aspergillus flavus and Aspergillus parasiticus and naturally occurring contaminants of food. Aflatoxin poisoning is a recurrent public health problem. Acute exposure to high levels of aflatoxins causes aflatoxicosis and chronic exposure to low levels of aflatoxins is one of the major risk factors in the etiology of carcinoma in several regions of the world including India. More than 5 billion people in developing countries are at risk of chronic exposure to naturally occurring aflatoxins. The International Agency for Research on Cancer classifies aflatoxin B1 within Class 1 of human carcinogens. Aflatoxin B1 is the most toxic mutagenic, genotoxic and carcinogenic among the known aflatoxins. We have evaluated systematically and presented data in this book whether chronic exposure to low doses of aflatoxin B1 has any significant effect in adult male Wistar rats. This book also provides valuable information on effect of exposure to aflatoxin B1 during embryonic period on reproduction of male progeny. 196 pp. Englisch. …

Taschenbuch. Condición: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Phytoestrogens are found in fruits, vegetables, grains and nuts and most abundant in soybeans. Phytoestrogen intake as food or dietary supplements, in particular soya products has been increased because of their pivotal role in prevention and treatment of hormone-dependent cancers, cardiovascular diseases, osteoporosis, and age-related diseases. According to the report published by the United Soybean Board in 2009, 84% of US consumers perceive soy as healthy diet and 32% deliberately consume soy products at least once in a month. Dietary consumption of phytoestrogens is a matter of considerable concern in humans. Exposure to exogenous estrogenic chemicals such as phytoestrogens may have detrimental effects on male reproductive health and fertility. We have evaluated systematically and presented the data in this book whether chronic exposure to low doses of genistein and diadzein has any significant effect on reproduction in adult male Wistar rats. Since fetuses and infants are exposed to phytoestrogens through breast milk, soy-based infant formula, this book also provides valuable information on effect of exposure to genistein and diadzein during embryonic period on reproduction. 248 pp. Englisch.…
