Edges and corners show bumps/wear, spine is sunned. The internal binding is good, no hinge issues. The backside of the frontispiece is stamped by the company stating this was a complementary catalog to the captain of the U.S. Navy. No other handwriting found in the book, no library markings, nothing torn or loose. Pages are toned due to age and there is some light scattered foxing and spotting, which includes also the exterior page edges. No publication or catalog date listed (1919).

The catalog is composed of a thorough description of instruments with explanation of the engineering including equations and diagrams and tables of specifications. The flexible green cloth cover has a library call number sticker to the spine. There are some scratches to the front and light bumping to the corners and spine ends. The inside pages are clean and without markings or wear. A stamp to the end page reads compliments of Brandis & Sons, to Prof. E. B. Hooell. The catalog is also stamped on the edition page by the Smithsonian Library. The first half covers the engineering and process and the later covers the instruments for railroad and land surveying.
