RARE historical-critical study of the Book of Esther by Sigmund Jampel (1874-1934), an eminent Galician Bible scholar and rabbi who was among the first Jewish Bible scholars who recognized the value of archaeological and epigraphical finds for establishing the antiquity of the historical accounts of the Bible and the questioning… of Wellhausen`s hypotheses. This study takes into account the archaeological excavations of Susa, which authenticated the description of the royal palace in the Book of Esther, and includes an appendix by Marcel-Auguste Dieulafoy (1844-1920), a French archaeologist, noted for his excavations at Susa (modern-day Shush, Iran) in 1885. Contains many excerpts in Hebrew. 220x150mm. VIII+165 pages. Quarter-cloth marbled board Hardcover with gilt spine. Front cover slightly scratched. Cover and spine rubbed and somewhat stained.
