Añadir al carritoSoft cover. Condición: Very Good. 246 pp. Los Angeles artist Shannon Ebner extends her exploration of photography, sculpture and language in this remarkable book, The Sun as Error. In collaboration with Dexter Sinister (design duo David Reinfurt and Stuart Bailey), The Sun as Error re-investigates the meaning and language of photographs, creating both an open-ended reading of her practice and also rethinking the idea of an artist's monograph. Far from straightforward, the book interweaves her bodies of work, previously unseen one-off pieces, with the language of technical diagrams, optical illusions, and graphic design. One of the persistent motifs through the book's sequence is an asterisk and, specifically, one imbued with the legacy of the graphic designer Muriel Cooper. As the first design director for MIT Press and the cofounder of the Visible Language Workshop, Cooper's legacy for reorienting and repositioning the direction of an artist's monograph is imaginatively explored in the creative partnership of Dexter Sinister and Shannon Ebner. This 2011 reprinted bootleg version of the original monograph is printed in a black and white paperback book. Edition of 1000.

Black matte paper covered boards with tipped-in four-color plate and title stamped in gray on cover, with light gray cloth-covered spine, no dust jacket as issued. Photographs, text, editing and design by Stephen Shore. Additional photographs by Shannon Ebner, Jamie O'Shea and Laura Gail Tyler, selected by Shore from among his recent students at Bard College. Essay "11 Interesting Photography Books About Which Very Little is Known," by Martin Parr. Conversation with Shore by Jeff Rosenheim. Includes an illustrated overview of JGS activities in the arts. Unpaginated (72 pp.), with 23 four-color plates and three black and white plates plus numerous additional color illustrations. 12 x 9-1/2 inches. New in publisher's shrink-wrap. From Nazraeli Press: "Magazines and books are generally edited and designed by unseen hands, hands that are often limited by the ideas and agendas of the publisher. What if, we thought, an artist was not only the primary focus of each issue in this biannual series, but as 'guest editor' was also responsible for the design of its cover and much of its contents as well? Stephen Shore is currently creating a series of small, limited edition books that will serve as 'visual time capsules.' As Shore himself is exploring the basic ideas of what a book is, he was the ideal choice for Witness Number One. The title for the series is borrowed: Daido Moriyama and Michael Kenna gave a joint presentation in Tokyo earlier this year on their mutual passion for, and work made on, Japan's northernmost island, Hokkaido. During the presentation, Moriyama described himself as a 'witness' rather than a participant in the events that he captures on film. The idea of being a witness -- of transcending the importance of Self and instead focusing on what one sees in one's surroundings -- has deep roots. Daido Moriyama will be the subject and guest editor of Witness Number Two.".
