The group was a successor organisation to the older National Socialist Automobile Corps (NSAK), which had existed since April 1930.With the outbreak of World War II in Europe on 1 September 1939, the National Socialist Motor Corps became a target for army recruitment, since NSKK members possessed knowledge of motorised transport, a coveted skill when the bulk of German ground forces relied on horses. The NSKK was used to transport German Army troops, supplies and ammunition. By the time the Second World War began, the NSKK had already trained some 200,000 men at its 21 training facilities.During field operations in the Eastern Front, the NSKK members of the Transport Brigade Speer followed Army Group South, providing infrastructural backup and replenishment. Members of the Transport Brigade Speer wore either the gray-blue uniform of the Luftwaffe or the brown uniform of Speer's staff. NSKK men working for Organisation Todt became members of the "NSKK Transport Brigade Todt", which were further divided into individual motor groups in the occupied territories.Major units of the NSKK were formed by 1944, operating throughout Germany. There were two full brigades of the NSKK supporting the Luftwaffe; a Motorobergruppe Alpenland in the Austrian Alps; Motorobergruppe Mitte (middle) which operated in Berlin, Franconia, and the Lower Rhine; Motorobergruppe Nord (north) that covered Hamburg, Lower Saxony, the Baltic Sea and Schleswig-Holstein; Motorobergruppe Nordost (northeast) in Danzig, East Prussia, and Wartheland; Motorobergruppe Ost (east) for Leipzig, Lower and Upper Silesia; Motorobergruppe Süd (south) which served Bavaria and Hochland; Motorobergruppe Südwest (southwest) for the Rhine-Moselle, and Swabian regions; Motorobergruppe Südost (southeast) covering the Upper and Lower Danube, Sudetenland; and Motorobergruppe West (west) which was responsible for Hessen, Thuringia, and Westphalia. Moreover, there were also NSKK units assigned to Organisation Todt, operating in France, Italy and Russia.Historian Peter Longerich suggests that members of the NSKK along with the paramilitary police, the Waffen-SS, and the German Army were all culpable in varying degrees for large-scale arrests, torture, and mass executions.

SB, 2024 reprint of 1947 original document housed at the National Archives, Kew, London. 750ppPublished Price £38 CROWCASS is an acronym for Central Registry of War Criminals and Security Suspects. This volume combines all four of the final CROWCASS publications which were in print at the end of 1947.CROWCASS was established to assist the United Nations War Crimes Commission and Allied governments in tracing ex-enemy nationals suspected of committing war crimes or atrocities in Europe. The organisation was originally set up by the Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force (SHAEF) in the spring of 1945. Operated by British and American military personnel with the assistance of civilian administrative staff the object was to provide a pool of information on persons in Allied detention and those still wanted for interrogation or apprehension in connection with potential war crimes. National governments were invited to draw on this information and were also encouraged to contribute. To Allied military investigators the CROWCASS registers became a sort of Nazi Hunter's bible BUT they had to be treated with considerable caution as many of the individuals were merely being sought for interrogation or simply to act as witnesses. Added to this, of course, all the cited instances of murder, pillage, brutality, torture etc that were contained within the CROWCASS registers were only allegations until those responsible were required to answer charges in an Allied court. There are over 50,000 Germans and other nationals in this combined volume. Many of those named will have been arrested and charged in connection with the crimes they were accused of. Whilst others will have escaped apprehension by the Allied authorities and may still be at large.Within these pages are the alleged perpetrators of tens of thousands of war crimes. They range from civilians and low ranking members of the armed forces to Adolf Hitler himself (CROWCASS Case Registry No.1 -Wanted for murder by Poland, Czechoslovakia and Belgium). Other notable names includeHitler's No.2 Martin Bormann, genocide architects Adolf Eichmann and Alois Brunner ), SS doctor Josef Mengele, Gestapo chief Klaus Barbie and Malmedy/ Wormhoudt massacre perpetrator SS General Wilhelm Mohnke.

The NSFK organisation was based closely on the paramilitary organisation of the Sturmabteilung (SA). A similar group was the National Socialist Motor Corps (NSKK). During the early years of its existence, the NSFK conducted military aviation training in gliders and private aeroplanes.

German Police covers the history of the German Police and particularly Himmlerâs involvement in initially the Gestapo and later with the secret organisations which were all included in the general term âPoliceâ.This detailed study examines Himmlerâs acolytes, the Higher SS Police Commanders, and the ever present SS involvement in internal security matters in the Third Reich. It also gives details of the regular police, as well as the more sinister Security Police (SiPo) and the Security Service (SD). Gestapo and Kripo are included. The volume is also important in that it contains nine uniform colour plates, sixteen black and white photographs and a very important colour section on official papers - identity documents for the regular police, the SS (including the SS pay book), the fire service and the Hitler Youth fire service, the SiPo, the SD, the Gestapo, the German standard ID card, Racial German ID cards and other important ID documents.

It is by no means exhaustive, however, and can not be used for the detection of forgeries. It should be stressed that persons whose identity documents are not absolutely in order should not be regarded with suspicion; on the contrary, they are probably people who have been aiding the Allied Cause and evading enemy police control, whereas those who have nothing to fear from the German authorities will most certainly have their papers in perfect order. DEFINITION OF AN IDENTITY DOCUMENT.The official definition of an identity document is as follows:âAny paper conforming to the following description: a paper bearing a photograph and finger-print, stamped by an official authority, signed by that authority and indicating the civil status, nationality, domicile and profession of the ownerâ. Numerous documents shown or described in this book are not strictly identity documents, but have been included because they are necessary for specified civilian activities (curfew passes, labor certificates, ration cards etc) This type of document is usually valid only when accompanied by an identity card. NOTE TO âAUSWEISEâ.An Ausweis is any document making a declaration and it therefore may appear in many forms: e.g. it may certify the bearer to be fit and proper person to enter a prohibited area, to use a railway train, to exercise any profession, to be on leave, to be exempt from certain duties etc. But in nearly every case it is only valid in conjunction with the holderâs identity card whereof the number is then mentioned. CATEGORIES.Identity documents have been classified in this report in six categories as follows:Category A - Documents Establishing Identity of Nationals.Category B - Documents Establishing Identity of Aliens.Category C - Documents Establishing Labour Status.Category D - Documents Establishing Military Status. Category E - Travel Documents, including Documents allowing entrance into or residence in Prohibited Coastal Areas.Category F - Ration Cards.Category G - Miscellaneous (Curfew Passes, Vehicle Permits, etc)Documents establishing Dutch Military Status are not shown, as the entire Army is interned. Unlike France and Belgium, the Dutch Identity Card is standard throughout the country. The original purpose of this official 1944 SHAEF book was to make Counter Intelligence Officers familiar with the different categories of identity and other documents carried by the citizens of Holland, Belgium and Luxembourg. They include - Military Status - Travel Documents, including Documents allowing entrance into or residence in Prohibited Coastal Areas - Ration Cards - Curfew Passes - Vehicle Permits, etc. Some documents a shown are not strictly identity documents, but were been included because they were necessary for specified civilian activities. It gives a thorough look at the minutia of the bureaucratic administration of German-occupied Europe through the documents of the military administrationâs civilian occupation regime .These historical documents are now extremely collectable. This original core reference gives reliable information to the purpose of issue, with actual-size colour illustrations of the artefact (both front, back and internal), along with a physical description and issuance regulations.

It played a significant role in Adolf Hitler's rise to power in the 1920s and 1930s. Its primary purposes were providing protection for Nazi rallies and assemblies; disrupting the meetings of opposing parties; fighting against the paramilitary units of the opposing parties, especially the Roter Frontkämpferbund of the Communist Party of Germany (KPD) and the Reichsbanner Schwarz-Rot-Gold of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD); and intimidating Romani, trade unionists, and especially Jews. The SA ceased to exist in May 1945 when Nazi Germany collapsed. It was formally disbanded and outlawed on October 10, 1945.FROM THE FOREWORDFrom a politico military point of view the SA (The Brownshirts or Nazi Party Stormtroopers ) is an organisation which should not be underestimated either at the present time or in relation to an allied occupation of Germany. Its active wartime strength is in the region of 500 000 to 700 000 men and its regional organisations include some 17 000 permanent headquarters throughout the Reich Its total peacetime strength was about 3 000 000 (1934). In addition there are at least another million SA men now serving in the Wehrmacht who upon demobilisation may resume contact with their old organisation unless it is not only disbanded but completely wiped out. This organisation represents the most widely spread and densely knit of any of the para-military forces of the Nazi Party and its influence is surpassed only by the SS and the Police. It is significant that the SA is now co-operating closely with both these bodies as an auxiliary internal security and defence force. This development is largely a war time measure and is one of the principal reason for the revival of the SA (especially since the appointment of a new Chief of Staff SCHEPMAN in Aug 1943) after a long period of political quiescence that followed the purge of the SA in 1934.But the SA is not only a part-time para-military organisation. Apart from its responsibility as the principal agency for pre- and post- military training, it provides fully embodied units for frontier and auxiliary police duty equal to regular infantry formations. For comparatively large scale actions against guerillas in L of C areas, some SA units are also issued with light mountain artillery and mortars or are equipped as mounted troops. These aspects of the SA are discussed in the following sections of this handbook. The general conclusion to be drawn from the evidence is that the SA with its ramified structure and wide range of duties is not only a valuable defence and security organisation on the German home front today, but presents a substantial counter-intelligence problem as a potential source of disturbance and conspiracy during and after the initial stages of the occupation of Germany.
