Hardcover. Condición: new. Hardcover. Before a solo career that has earned him twenty-two Top 10 albums, including six #1's, Paul Weller was the frontman for The Jam and The Style Council. In the Jam, Weller, still a teenager at the time of their debut In The City, led a highly influential trio that bridged punk and new wave and earned four #1 singles and one #1 album in their short tenure (19771982). At the height of their success, Weller broke up the band, opting for a different direction with The Style Council, which veered away from guitar-driven songs in favor of a jazz, soul, and pop sound. From 1983 to 1989, the band scored seven Top 10 singles and one #1 album in the UK. Long before he was known as The Modfather, Weller was a spokesperson for a generation. Perhaps this book serves as an overdue introduction for those unfamiliar with Weller, particularly in America. It chronicles Weller's catalogue from The Jam's debut through The Style Council's last, rejected house album Modernism: A New Decade, including rarities, B-sides, and covers. It combines research with artist interviews done especially for this project, as well as occasional author anecdotes. AUTHOR: Kevin Sedelmeier holds advanced degrees in English and Teaching, but he has been attending classes at the School of Weller since 1984. Having previously co-authored Pop Goes the Culture: A Father and Son's Take on the World with his son, this book marks his second work of non-fiction. He has been a music columnist, an online sports reporter, fiction writer, and failed screenwriter. He currently teaches English and History of Rock and Roll at St. Xavier High School. He is most proud, however, to be Lukas and Mason's dad. He resides in Louisville, Kentucky, with his sons and wife Elizabeth. 24 colour, 10 b/w illustrations Before a solo career that has earned him twenty-two Top 10 albums, including six #1's, Paul Weller was the frontman for The Jam and The Style Council. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.…

Hardcover. Condición: new. Hardcover. Few musical artists have had careers as successful, varied, and enduring as Paul Weller. From The Jam to The Style Council to his storied solo career, the man once called a spokesman for a generation and later The Modfather has done things on his own terms, and by doing so won the respect of critics and the adulation of fans. Revered in his United Kingdom home yet not as well known in America, knowledgeable music fans worldwide understand his impact and influence. With nearly thirty studio albums, collections, and side projects to delve into, this book is a one-stop resource for all things Weller. However, it isn't simply a compilation of song facts fans can find on the internet. Instead, it combines research with artist interviews done especially for this book, as well as author stories and takes on the tracks. In addition to being Weller reference material, it is a fan and former music writer's reflection on the impact Weller's music has made on his own life.
