This is a commemorative booklet intended as a souvenir for those who attended the American Bankers Association Convention from October 4-7, 1926 in Los Angeles, California. The booklet begins with naming notable figures who have visited LA such as President Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt, President Rutherford B. Hayes, and William Tecumseh Sherman. The text proceeds to chart the progress of LA between the present time of 1926 and the years 1910 and 1921 (the two years when the Convention was last held). The text mentions the doubling of LA's population but also lauds the approximate doubling of bank holdings in LA from about half a billion dollars to $1 billion. There is also mention of the progress of manufacturing plants and the increase in exports and imports in the city. The text highlights architectural changes and urban development in the city during the time that had elapsed as well as other principal industries in LA such as agriculture, cultivation of fruit and vegetable crops, and the oil industry. There are various in-text statistical or numerical figures given such as valuations, acreage, and metrics for different industries. The pamphlet doubles as a viewbook as it includes many black-and-white photographic illustrations of scenes in LA spanning from the late nineteenth century to 1926. There are many city views taken from different perspectives and urban places of interest. In the back is the Convention program (list of events), names of American Bankers Association officers, and a few pages promoting local places of interest to attendees. One map is titled, "East Bay Cities: Showing Principal Streets and Roads Used by Automobiles," and was issued by the California Automobile Association. The other map is titled, "Automobile Highways of California," and was issued by Security Trust & Saving Bank. East Bay Cities map: c. 1920s, 3 1/2" x 9 1/4" folded, 13 1/2" x 18 1/2" unfolded. Highways of California map: 1927, 3 1/2" x 8 1/2" folded, 27" x 17" unfolded. East Bay Cities map is very clean and intact except for moderate age toning and slight wear to extremities. Highways of California map is relatively more fragile and has moderate age toning and splitting along fold lines. Envelope is fragile and damaged; it has splitting along edges, darkening, dampstains, and two residual pieces of paper stuck on front and back. Each map and overall collection are Very Good. This is a collection of two folding maps laid in a brown paper California State Automobile Association envelope. "East Bay Cities" map shows a road map of Bay Area cities on one side fully opened. The verso of the map features reminders about traffic laws and safety and a few paragraphs about the cities of Oakland, Berkeley, and Alameda. "Highways of California" map actually includes five maps. When fully opened, a central road map titled, "Automobile Road Map of The Los Angeles Region," is printed on one side. The other smaller (each about on one panel) road maps on the verso are titled, "Map of Central California," "Routes to and Through the Imperial Valley," "Map of San Diego County," and "Map of Territory North and West of Los Angeles." Text on the Highways of California map is brief and comprises mostly promotional text about Security Trust & Savings Bank.
