First edition of this very rare original catalogue detailing the precision balances for mine…ral assayers, manufacturers, chemists, jewelers, and pulp paper makers, together with a broad range of laboratory equipment, polariscopes, chemicals, burners, laboratory furniture, and more. Ezekiel Sargent began selling assaying and prospecting equipment to gold prospectors passing through Chicago on their way West to the California Gold Rush in 1849, and continued to prosper and expand, even through the 1871 Chicago fire. Eventually the Company would merge with Welch Scientific Co. in 1968, becoming the leading supplier of science education products in the United States.

First edition…of this scarce and well-illustrated catalogue of thermometers for the brewing industry, including angle thermometers, mash tub thermometers, fermenting tub thermometers, brewer's saccharometers, recorder themometers, index thermometers for Pasteurizers, fermenters, and more. In addition, there are Stormographs, airmeters, and anemometers also advertised for sale. Originally H&M (Hohmann & Maurer) was acquired by the Taylor Bros. Co. in 1896, merged into the Taylor Instrument Companies in 1907, and were well known for their precise and excellent thermometers. Taylor established the first research & development department in an American instrument industry in 1911, and proved key to the United States' success in World War I, manufacturing 99% of all altimeters, airplane stratascopes, inclinometers, and oxygen systems. This book could be from as early as 1855… when they moved to Fulton street, but the only other copy available of this book dates it at circa 1885, so going to go with that date. F.W. Devoe & Co. was a prominent New York-based manufacturer of paints, pigments, and artists' supplies during the 19th century, with origins tracing back to 1754. The company was founded by William Post, who began selling paint on Manhattan's East River waterfront. Over time, the business evolved and expanded significantly, becoming a key player in the American paint industry.
