Paperback. Condición: New. 2. Aufl. 2016.

The book contains many papers from a workshop held at the Technische Universität Berlin (West Berlin.5-8 July, 1979). See the table of contents. "Mathematics is not only a science in itself, but also the basic tool for all the modern sciences. Being the most 'objective' of these sciences, mathematics is presumably the least affected by the social milieu. This volume presents a detailed discussion of the societal pressures exerted upon researchers, particularly mathematicians, at the time when most modern scientific practices originated. The social structure of mathematical work, the role of the individual researchers and their achievements, and the professionalization of mathematics are viewed in a historical light. The revolution in the mathematics curriculum is examined from a sociological as well as an economic point of view." /// Hardback, XII+301 pp., 8° (15.5 x 23.5 cm), cover slightly worn, backstrip faded/sunned, corners slightly bumped, there is a small paper label on the back cover and a call number written with pen on one page, condition: good Book Language/s: English. …
