Hardcover. Condición: new. Hardcover. A monograph of duotone photographs, taken in the Palm House at the National Botanic Gardens in Glasnevin, Dublin, beautifully illustrate this building as it was prior to its restoration. The photographs capture the cluttered green jungle, worn by time and held high in affection by the enchan…ted visitors who stepped inside its lofty paradise. By bringing the reader around the house as it was, drawing the eye to detail upwards, along its unique metal walkway and into the smaller treasure, the orchid house; to look at the intricate glass panels, metal structure, the wooden frames with their own unique patina of the passage of time, The Palm House tells its story visually. Meanwhile, in an accompanying text, Brendan Sayers relates how a visitor felt on entering and exploring this exotic world, the history and the origin of the planting, the unique pot and tub culture, and the importance of the collection. Añadir al carritoCondición: Sehr gut. [Limited] Signed Edition (6/100). 28 x 28 cm. 127 pages. Original decorated paper covered boards. Hard cover. Fine, close to new condition. AMELIA STEIN CV 2021 Born in Dublin, Ireland 1958. Elected a member of the RHA in 2004, the first photographer elected as an Artist Member (The Royal Hibernian Academy i…s an artist-based and artist-oriented institution in Ireland, founded in Dublin in 1823). Elected the first female photographer to Aosdána in 2006 ( Aosdána, founded in 1981, honours artists whose work has made an outstanding contribution to the creative arts in Ireland). The Photographer Amelia Stein's black and white photographs pursue character and the constituent elements that create them. Absence and the passage of time is a recurring theme. Described as a portrait photographer, her work is not confined to the figure or facial studies but the wider meaning of portraiture, from the conventional face to the breath of wider open landscapes, from small intimate details to the landscape on the grand scale . Though meticulously composed in the camera her practice gives equal emphasis to the subtleties of the darkroom and meticulous attention to detail in printing. Work is represented in the collections of The National Gallery of Ireland, IMMA ( Irish Museum of Modern Art ), the Arts Council of Ireland and have been on view in solo and group shows in both Public and Private venues to the present day. Formerly as a performing arts photographer, Stein worked in Theatre and Opera in Ireland 1979-2000. Currently she divides her time between Dublin and North Mayo . (Source Amelia Stein Web Site).

Añadir al carritoDublin: Printed by Nicholson and Bass for the authors. (2008.) 8vo. Original full light brown leather wraparound binding, in original brown card box, speckled edges, decorative endpapers; pp. x, 125, illustrated throughout in colour, photographs in text; with original signed watercolour by Susan Sex of common fragrant orchid bou…nd in; fine.No. 17 of limited edition of 850, signed by Sayer and Sex, this one of only fifty reserved for patrons, donors and authors. This book was intended as an affordable follow up to the authors' magisterial 2004 volume Ireland's Wild Orchids, and in its most popular form is a pocket-size, ring-bound waterproof guide including pages for the reader's own notes. It was hailed as "a notable alliance of science, art and craft, and a timely tool in the current run of orchidaceous summers" (Viney, M. 2009 "Book review: Ireland's wild orchids: a field guide". Biology and Environment: Proceedings of the Royal Irish Academy 110B, 79). However, this special edition goes quite against the original rationale of the publication by being a lavish production, with the original watercolour not being reproduced in the book.
