hardcover. Condición: Good. First Edition. Publication: London, George Routledge & Sons Ltd, 1906 Formatting: Small 4to, pp. 64. Condition Report: Good. The original blue pictorial cloth binding remains structurally sound, though it exhibits the expected wear for a children's book of this era. The corners are noticeably bumped and rubbed through to the underlying boards, and the spine ends are frayed with some minor chipping and crushing. The front board's gilt detailing and illustrations remain charmingly bright and legible, despite some general surface rubbing, light edge-wear, and mild darkening to the cloth. Internally, the binding remains secure, though slightly relaxed at the joints. The text block shows scattered but pronounced foxing, most notable across the preliminary pages, half-title, and page margins. Crucially, the lovely double-page colour frontispiece and title page remain vibrant and well-preserved. Overall, a complete and intact copy that shows its history but retains its structural integrity. Catalogue Note: First edition of this beautifully illustrated Edwardian collection of traditional nursery songs. H. Keatley Moore's work carefully preserves the melodies and harmonies of historic childhood rhymes, referencing classical predecessors like Halliwell's Nursery Rhymes and Walter Crane's Baby's Opera. The volume is most notable for its stunning Art Nouveau-influenced colour frontispiece and title page, as well as line illustrations, by the Irish artist May Sandheim. Sandheim, who tragically died just a few years after this publication at age 32, left behind only a small body of work, making books bearing her illustrations particularly scarce on the open market. This true first edition, issued jointly by Routledge and E.P. Dutton in the early 20th century, is highly elusive in any condition. Due to the interactive nature of children's songbooks, few copies survived intact, making this complete example a highly desirable acquisition for collectors of Edwardian children's literature and early 20th-century illustration. An enchanting window into Edwardian childhood, The Nursery Song Book gathers a timeless collection of traditional rhymes and melodies, carefully arranged by H. Keatley Moore. Accompanied by the striking, Art Nouveau-inspired illustrations of May Sandheim, this scarce volume breathes new life into classic songs like 'Humpty Dumpty' and 'Ride a Cock-Horse', offering a delightful blend of musical heritage and artistic beauty.
