Paperback. Condición: Very Good. What was it that I did to survive? Where did those ideas come from? Where did I find the resolve to enact them? At the time of my release, I had no ready answers beyond that I did what seemed natural and necessary. In looking back, I realize that the peculiarities of my personality helped me to adopt strategies that allowed for the reclamation of my identity and my integrity while in the hands of barbarians. Yet what I did is neither remarkable nor courageous nor beyond the capabilities of any person that finds himself in similar circumstances. What I have come to believe is that there exists in all of us the potential to stand and fight and reclaim.-- William Sampson On Sunday, December 17, 2000, Canadian engineer William Sampson stepped outside his house in Riyadh only to be hauled into a car and beaten by two Saudi men he didn't know. Within an hour, he was incarcerated in one of the city's most notorious jails. Within two months, he was tortured into a confession of responsibility for a wave of car bombings he did not commit. Sometime in that first year, he was sentenced to death in a secret trial. For two and a half years, Sampson was continually subjected to beatings and torture, convinced his death was just around the corner. Inept diplomacy failed him but human rights groups took up his cause and on August 8, 2003, he was finally freed in a controversial prisoner exchange. It wasn't until February 2005 that Sampson's name was officially cleared when a British inquest exonerated him of the crimes. Angry, intelligent, and compelling, Sampson places his personal story within the context of the geopolitics that engineered his fate, and in doing so has crafted a searing expos of Western foreign policy in the Arab Middle East. From the Hardcover edition.…

Hardback. Condición: Very Good. By the beloved and wildly popular host of the PBS Kids show Dinosaur Train, here is the book every parent needs: a rousing call to connect our kids to the natural world, filled with tips and advice. The average North American child now spends about seven hours a day staring at screens and mere minutes engaged in unstructured play outdoors. Yet recent research indicates that experiences in nature are essential for healthy growth. Regular exposure to nature can help relieve stress, depression, and attention deficits. It can reduce bullying, combat obesity, and boost academic scores. Most critical of all, abundant time in natural settings seems to yield long-term benefits in kids' cognitive, emotional, and social development. How to Raise a Wild Child is a timely and engaging antidote, offering teachers, parents, and other caregivers the necessary tools to engender a meaningful, lasting connection between children and the natural world. Distilling the latest research in multiple disciplines, Sampson reveals how adults can help kids fall in love with nature -- enlisting technology as an ally, taking advantage of urban nature, and instilling a sense of place along the way.In a time when the connection between humans and the rest of nature is most vulnerable, Scott offers parents and teachers a book of encouragement and knowledge, and to children, the priceless gift of wonder. -- Richard Louv, author of Last Child in the Woods and The Nature Principle.…

Paperback. Condición: Good. The obsession for some people to control everything, and everyone, is as old as the biblical account of Queen Jezebel. In this eye-opening classic, newly revised and updated, Steve Sampson shows how the Jezebel spirit--a demonic spirit of control--sows discord, confusion, rebellion and even passivity. You can protect yourself and break free from cycles of control and manipulation. With clarity and authority, Sampson exposes the signs of a Jezebel spirit, its strategies of destruction and how you can bring it under the control of the Holy Spirit. This biblical and balanced guide is the definitive resource for anyone needing to confront and battle this insidious demonic entity.Confronting Jezebel is marvelously written, biblically based and easy to understand. I recommend this book as part of your library.--Dr. Che Ahn, senior pastor, HROCK Church, Pasadena, CA; president, Harvest International MinistrySteve Sampson hits the bull's-eye. Almost every page gives insight into the problems we often confront relating to others. This book is essential as a manual for counsel, wisdom and victory.--Mahesh Chavda, senior pastor, All Nations Church. …

Paperback. Condición: Good. Golf hero Ben Hogan bore a mystique that still captivates golfers: a silent, almost eerie concentration that intimidated his opponents, a presence any politician or actor would envy, and an ability to hit a ball so squarely it sizzled as it left his club. Hogan won four US Opens in six years, three after a near-fatal automobile accident. His injuries limited him to six tournaments in 1953, but he won five. It was arguably the greatest year ever in the history of professional golf. But in the midst of the acclaim, myth distorted and obscured Ben Hogan. No one knew what drove him to practice until his hands bled, or what private demons built the high walls that surrounded him. Here at last is the Hogan no reader has ever encountered. Sampson draws on interviews with fellow golf legends Byron Nelson, Jack Nicklaus, and Sam Snead to present an in-depth portrait of a man with bullet-proof confidence and single-mindedness, a man who turned the negatives he encountered into a life of glory and achievement. From the poverty of his youth and the suicide of his father to the failure and conflict that stalked him into middle age, Hogan traces an unforgettable portrait of an amazing man.…
