Sachs was a flagrant homosexual Jew who converted to Catholicism, but had to leave seminary due to an affair with a young man. During the 1920s he was involved with Cocteau, Genet, LeDuc et al. Februar 1967 - unsigniert, aber mit handschriftlicher Ergänzung des Absenderstempels /// Autogramm Autograph signiert signed signee /// "Born on July 12, 1926, he was the son of… immigrants who spoke only Yiddish at home, yet after the war he went on to get his PhD in biochemistry from Columbia University. He became a world-renowned scientist in the field of neuro-endocrinology and pioneered the field of hormone biosynthesis. He became a full professor at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland at the age of forty. When he was 48, Howard gave up the comfort and prestige of his scientific career after a trip to Africa. He left his position as a Section Chief at the Roche Institute of Molecular Biology in Nutley, NJ and applied to medical school. Despite numerous rejections because of his age, he was admitted to the Case-Western Reserve School of Medicine in 1973 and graduated with his medical degree in 1976, and became a neurologist.Howard practiced medicine with only one goal to help people. He practiced in Sri Lanka, Israel and Bosnia. He conducted a headache study in Ecuador and directed headache clinics at SUNY, Stony Brook, New York, in New Mexico and Massachusetts. After a stroke destroyed the right side of his brain, he got back on his feet and continued to work as a neurologist for another 10 years despite physical handicaps from the stroke. He lived by the motto: "The brave are rewarded." Six months before he died, Howard self-published his memoir, edited by Christie Svane, entitled, "Skydiving into Medical School and Other Adventures: from the Slums of New York to the Himalayas."
