Frank signed them, only because Ruth was usually busy doing the family wash; but they were the result of our joint efforts. Marie kindly made copies for our four children, their respective wives, husbands, and families. But this compilation is primarily for our own permanent record. If it should prove of interest to others - well, so much the better." ------- from the Editor's Note (SIGNED FIRST EDITION). Inscribed by Author(s).…

"We didn't intend to write these letters. Like Topsy - they 'just grew.' The result is that there will undoubtedly appear many errors in places and historical references. Sometimes we couldn't read our notes. (Those who know my writing can easily believe this.) Much came from memory after three or four days of traveling. We'd forget - couldn't remember how to spell names, places, spots and in some cases our informant might not have been accurate. The letters are just as we sent them with some specific additions from Ruth's diary." ------- from the Editor's Note (SIGNED FIRST EDITION). Inscribed by Author(s). …

Hardback. Condición: Good. First Edition. 23 x 29cm good hardback in dust jacket, minor chip at top right-hand corner. Beautiful colour reproductions showing arrangements of beads. This type of glass bead is named after a 16th century Spanish port on an island off the coast of Venezuela where this unique bead was first recognized by archaeologists. Two varieties of Nueva Cadiz beads are commonly found in the James Fort excavations. One is longer and larger in diameter, with a light blue or turquoise colored exterior layer of glass. The other is quite a bit shorter and with a smaller diameter, with a dark blue exterior layer of glass.
