Erste Ausgabe, entstanden in Rudorffs Zeit als Land- und Amtsrichter in Hannover (seit 1881). - Otto Rudorff (1845-1922), Neffe von Adolf August Friedrich Rudorff, Professor der Rechte an der Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität in Berl…in, schlug nach seinem Studium eine Richterkarriere ein, die ihn über Bonn, Baumholder, Düsseldorf und Kassel nach Hannover führte. Im Jahre 1884 folgte Rudorff - auf Initiative des japanischen Gesandten in Berlin - einem Ruf an die Universität Tokio, als Professor für Römisches und Öffentliches Recht. Bereits im Jahre 1885 entband man ihn von seinen Lehrverpflichtungen und rief Rudorff als Berater ins japanische Justizministerium, wo er insbesondere an der Ausarbeitung des japanischen Gerichtsverfassungsgesetzes von 1890 mitwirkte, das auf ein an das deutsche Pendant von 1877 angelehnten Entwurf zurückging.
