The series was popular & made into a series of 12 films, 1949-1955, starring Johnny Sheffield, who had played "Boy" in the original Tarzan films starring Johnny Weissmuller. From 1932, this was book #13 in the original Cupples & Leon printings (the true FIRST EDITIONs), & a true First Printing, listing to self in front matter, in 206 pages with glossy frontispiece by W. S. Rogers (unattributed in book). A 12mo (5" x 7.5") with tan cloth-covered boards stamped with a black design showing Bomba in the jungle to front center, lettered above & below & to spine in black, this book is in Fair condition: generally quite clean, text block strong but rear hinge is cracked. In an attempt by the Stratemeyer Syndicate to cash in on the "Tarzan" fervor sweeping the US in the early decades of the 20th century, they introduced the character of Bomba, a white boy growing up in the jungles of South America (first 10 books) & Africa (later 10 books). The series was popular & made into a series of 12 films, 1949-1955, starring Johnny Sheffield, who had played "Boy" in the original Tarzan films starring Johnny Weissmuller. From 1930, this was book #9 in the original Cupples & Leon printings (the true FIRST EDITIONs), but a Second Printing, listing to book No.10 in front matter. In 204 pages + 4 pages of ads for other children's titles by this publisher in rear. Frontispiece & DJ cover art by W. S. Rogers (unattributed in book).
