Añadir al carritoHardback. Condición: New. Bird decoys were used for hunting in North America until the advent of hunting regulations in the early twentieth century, when decoys started to be prized and collected as masterpieces of American folk art. This handsome book is the first examination of the historic and unparalleled decoy collection at Shelburne Museum. Featuring new photography of 250 of the museum s most important and artistically carved decoys, it includes examples made by the most respected American carvers: Charles Osgood, Lem and Steve Ward, John Blair, Bill Bowman, Nathan Cobb, Jr., Lee Dudley, James Holly, Jr., Nathan Horner, Albert Laing, Joseph Lincoln, A. Elmer Crowell, and Charles Shang Wheeler. The story of the collection begins with Joel Barber, the pioneer decoy enthusiast and New York architect, artist, and carver, whose gift of 400 superior examples established the collection in 1952. Several essays provide groundbreaking scholarship on the origins, construction, and attribution of bird decoys, imparting critical advancements to our modern understanding of this revered tradition.

Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: VG. Very nice clean copy. 62 p. : ill. (chiefly col.) ; 22 x 28 cm. Contents: Shelburne Museum's circus collection -- The golden age of the American circus -- Circus advertising -- Circus parade -- Peerless prodigies of physical phenomena: sideshow freaks -- Superlative specimens: menagerie animals -- The big top. "The circus collection made its debut at Shelburne Museum in 1959 when founder Electra Havemeyer Webb (1888-1960) acquired Roy Arnold's scale model circus parade . Inspired by the museum's acquisition, the family of Mrs. Webb's cousin Harry T. Peters, Sr. (1882-1948) donated his massive collection of circus posters . This gift was complemented by Roy Arnold's donation in 1965 of the posters he had displayed as a backdrop for his hand-carved parade at public venues and charity events. Today the Circus Building features changing exhibits of Shelburne Museum's poster collection along the inner wall of the concourse, opposite the Arnold parade. The collection is comprised of more than 500 wood-cut prints, lithographs, and serigraphs dating from the late-18th through the middle decades of the 20th century"--P. 3.
