Original black half leather, gilt lettered and ruled, and green embossed cloth, marbled endpapers, all edges stained red, illustrated with inserted engraved plates throughout. V.1: 664 pages, 18 plates; v.2: 680 pages, 25 plates; v.3: 738 pages, 25 plates, with a general index. Collates complete. An extravagant production. The dating estimate of 1867 comes from the date of one of the plates, several others were dated 1866, not all plates were examined for a date. All retain their tissue guards, all guards with ghost images from the plates. This was issued in a few slightly different bindings, suggesting copies were bound as needed. All leather edges rubbed, tips rubbed through; some minor foxing. A Very Good copy.…

Cloth Over Boards. Condición: Fair. No Jacket. This three volume set has been bound in red cloth over bevelled boards. Spines have embossed gilt lettering {faded}, black bands. Front covers ave black embossed decorations, back is blind embossed. All three volumes have some rubbing and 'dirt' of the covers, first volume has a large whitened spot near fore-edge of front cover. All volumes have corner bumping with board showing, frayed cloth. Edge wear of the boards is quite good. Heads and tails of spines have wear and frayed cloth. Text has yellowed with age, clean and tight in bindings. No ownership markings. Engraved illustrations {tip-ins} retain protective tissue sheets. Some slight shdowing, but very little foxing. Volume one and two had damaged gutters, professionally repaired with no new material.
