Hardcover. Condición: Very good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Good. First Printing [Stated]. x, 293 pages. The dust jacket is in a plastic sleeve. Both Andrew Kopkind and James Ridgeway worked as reporters for The New Republic, then founded Hard Times in 1968. Hard Times was a news paper and an experiment in journalism. It attemp…ted to develop a new style of political reporting, muckraking, and radical analysis-a style free from the constraints that both the news media and the sectarian journals impose. In 1970, Hard Times merged with the magazine Ramparts, and became a section in it. The first Hard Times book was Rebellion and Repression, published in a Meridian edition. Derived from a Kirkus review: The pieces, mostly written by Kopkind and Ridgeway, are "derived from" the news sheet Hard Times which appeared in the late '60's. They include explicit appraisals of the course of things throughout the decade. Under the rubric "politics," we get -- Chicago, Weathermen, Panthers and New Haven, the Chicago conspiracy. Under "resources" there is some of Ridgeway's excellent expose material, and a Nader article. "Race" features a plumbing the Kerner Report, and as the New Left fades into Woodstock and the Weathermen into terrorism, the contributors do not abandon their leading: the cultural revolution. As a reflection of the "reformist"-"adventurist" polarities of those years, the book is telling.
