First edition, and a BRIGHT AND ATTRACTIVE COPY, bound without text. A commemoration of the celebrations for the French-supported Batavian Republic (1795-1806) held in Amsterdam. These celebrations, on 19 June 1795, coincided with the installation of the representatives to the new National Assembly. Most of the hand-colored illustrations show monuments with allegorical figures. The vignette on the title-page is signed by the engraver Noach van der Meer the younger (1741-1822). In November 1795 in Amsterdam, Barend Meezeman, Arend Swieter, and Casparus Kloosterman, members of the civic cavalry, committed crimes and acts of plundering and were imprisoned in the city hall, with a criminal prosecution prepared by the Committee of Justice in April 1796.Before the trial could tak…e place, they were forcibly freed during the night of 1011 May 1796 by armed cannoneers who also released other prisoners, while Albertus Ploos van Amstel and Gerrit Jan van Nes were likewise detained there, the latter being sentenced to two years' banishment from the city.Original paper binding with some damages (loos paper strokes). C1221[NL] Knuttel 22785 22786 Barend Meezeman, Arend Swieter en Casparus Kloosterman hadden zich op 4 en 5 november 1795 te Amsterdam als burger corps-cavalleristen misdragen door het plegen van misdaden en plunderingen. Zij werden gevangen gehouden op het stadhuis. Het Comité van Justitie had op 7 april 1796 rapport over hen uitgebracht en er zou een strafzaak volgen. In de nacht van 10 op 11 mei 1796 werden zij echter gewapenderhand bevrijd door een groep kanonniers die het stadhuis was binnengedrongen en ook anderen vrijlieten, waaronder een zekere Hunnemeijer. $Albertus Ploos van Amstel werd ook op het stadhuis gevangen gehouden, evenals Gerrit Jan van Nes die tot twee jaar verbanning uit de stad werd veroordeeld.
