Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book explores the evolution of competitions to honor the gods while covering the evolution of practicing musical arts in Greece from the 6th to the 4th century B.C. It explores both the artistic and cultural transformations that allowed music to assume a prestigious place in the education of Greek citizens, and thus, to occupy an equally important place in religious practices. The author unveils the modifications, in the organization and rewards of the competitions, that accompanied the evolution of musical practice. The analysis of competition programs, of different categories and the evolution of the notion of "musical art" in Greece allows the author to consider the influence of these competitions on musical creation, and therefore, on our perception of Greek music. The author's detailed overview of this unique aspect of Greek culture sets a solid foundation for understanding the impact of these events and their evolution over time.
