Bound in publisher's imitation vellum binding, with handmade marbled wrappers, in slipcase. Fine copy notwithstanding some slight foxing stains - more so at the photo engravings. Luxurius commemorative publication on the occasion of the entering in service of the new steamer of the company in 1923 ''De Belgenland ''. The Red Star Line shipping company of Antwerp, played an important role in the shipping of emigrants from the old Europe to the new continent in the last quarter of the 19th c. and the first quarter of the 20th c.

A very good set of art deco liner menu cards. S.S. Belgenland was the flagship of the Red Star Line and an icon of modernist luxury liner-style: Belfast-bulit and originally commissioned in 1917 as a British troop ship, it was refitted as an ocean cruiser. At 204 metres long, weighing 27,000 tonnes and carrying 2,700 it specialised in long distance and world cruises. Its most famous passenger was perhaps Albert Einstein, who travelled from New York to Antwerp in 1933, arriving in Europe to find Hitler had been made chancellor. 6 numbered menu cards, with detachable postcard illustrations (all intact) printed in gold and colours, 2 with printed menus (December 12, 1925) the others blank. Plus one additional card with detachable monochrome postcard of Japan. A few small spots but overall very fresh.

Linen-backed map in good condition, with chipping at left edge and in a couple of other places in the index of places which surround the map. Crack near top right. Printed outline color by country. Show Europe from Scotland to Montenegro, Latvia to Madrid. Rail lines highlighted. Rare promotional map from this steamship line, one of the leading transporters of immigrants to the United States in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Map is printed with German place names, information at top listing the company's agents in Antwerp, New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, Milwaukee and Galveston is in English. Roughly dated from the listing at the top of the agent in Chicago, Wasmandorff & Heinemann, a firm which went bankrupt in 1896.

Condición: near fine. 88 X 56 cm. Original color lithographed poster. Fantastic vibrant colors, blue background with red lettering. A bit of toning to outside edging. Overall very nice condition. near fine The Red Star Line was an ocean passenger line founded in 1871. The company operated until 1935, when the economic depression made it too difficult to remain in operation. This particular posted advertises the Antwerp to Canada line. Depicts a happy young man having just took off his hat in greeting, standing in front of a golden farm field, with prosperous farmland behind him.

Antwerp, Red Star Line, on board of the R.M.S. Belgenland, printed menu of November 11th 1923, printed on stiff board, 34,5 x 21,5 cm, printed on two sides ( one in French ; the other in English ). With a coloured typographical border ( renaissance groteske ). fold in the middle. Rare menu dating from the beginning of the cruise career of the SS Belgenland ( started in 1923 ). The ship was sold in 1935 to the Atlantic Transport Company and soon after scrapped.
