Añadir al carritoSoft cover. Condición: Very Good. Original publisher's light beige paper wrappers with staple binding. Black lettering and two small illustrations (an Indigenous individual and pattern of a wampum belt) printed in black ink on front. No date, circa 1940s-1960s. 6 1/4" x 9 1/2." Unpaginated, sixteen pages, complete. Small black-and-white illustrations, complete. Top part of one page (in the section with the play) has an addition or correction (paper with printed text) tipped in (may affect pre-existing text). Pages are virtually pristine and intact except for light age toning. Covers are very clean and intact except for some rust marks on spine, faint offsetting, and light age toning. A Very Good, almost Near Fine copy. This is one of a series of pamphlets about the Iroquois tribes by Aren Akweks, also known as Ray Fadden. According to the booklet, original proceeds from sales of these pamphlets were received by Indigenous children through the Akwesasne Counselor Organization at St. Regis Mohawk Reservation in Hogansburg, New York. Ray Tehanetorens ("He Walks Through the Pines") Fadden (1910-2008) was an author and educator. Accounts differ as to his ethnic background; some accounts state that Fadden was part-Mohawk while others say that Fadden was non-Indigenous but worked closely with the Mohawk community and was adopted by the Mohawk tribe. Fadden taught at Tuscarora Reservation and then at St. Regis Mohawk School in Hogansburg. In the early 1940s, Fadden founded the Akwesasne Mohawk Counselor Organization to help educate Indigenous youth about their heritage and to promote positive self-image. Fadden retired in 1967. This pamphlet contains two main parts. The first contains a brief history of the "Migration of the Tuscarora." The story is told in brief phrases and sentences wherein each line is accompanied by a black-and-white pictogram illustrating what is being said. At least some of the pictograms are cultural symbols used by the Tuscarora tribe. The history recounts the hardships and tragedies experienced by the Tuscarora at the hands of white settlers and colonizers. The eponymous migration occurred when the Tuscarora were violently driven from their homelands. The history then recounts how the Five Nations of the Iroquois Confederacy, the Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga, and Seneca, accepted the Tuscarora as the sixth nation of the confederacy. The history ends with the Tuscaroras' final settlement near Niagara Falls. Following the story are illustrations of a Six Nations design from a 1714 wampum belt. Below this illustration is another that shows a Tuscarora belt pattern. The other main part in the latter half of this booklet is a play about the Tuscaroras' migration, also written by Fadden. The play is subdivided into three scenes that chronicle the Tuscaroras' welcoming of English settlers, the Tuscaroras' fight for their freedom and homelands, and the Tuscarora being welcomed and protected by the League of Five Nations.…
