This book is a captivating and comprehensive account of the literary and cultural phenomenon of the morality play in late medieval England. The morality play, a form of theatre popular from the 14th to the 16th centuries, used allegorical characters and vivid staging to convey moral and religious lessons to its audiences. The author traces the evolution of the morality play from its roots in the mystery cycles to its later development as a sophisticated and influential form of dramatic entertainment. The book explores the key themes, characters, and conventions of the morality play, shedding light on its unique contribution to English literature and its enduring appeal to contemporary readers. It presents the morality play as a mirror of its time, reflecting the social, political, and religious concerns of medieval England, and demonstrates its enduring significance as a form that continues to inspire and resonate with audiences today.
