Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. The author uses firsthand accounts to recount lesser-known episodes of the French Revolution, with particular focus on the little-known group of foreign mercenaries, the Manteaux Rouges. These units were employed by the Austrians to fight on the Western front, gaining notoriety for their fearsome appearance and savagery in battle. However, as the story unfolds, the complexities of these soldiers are revealed, as the author traces their motivations, their role in the conflict, and their ultimate fates. By shedding light on this obscure chapter of the French Revolution, this book expands our understanding of the myriad perspectives that shaped this tumultuous period. Through the personal stories of both the Manteaux Rouges and their victims, the author unravels the passions, prejudices, and the uneasy balance between humanity and barbarism that defined this era. Il use donc de son influence en faveur de Boussagol, au nom de la préférence nationale : « Il semble qu'un français, à mérite égal, sinon supérieur, doit avoir la préférence » et Hasselmans a un talent « remarquable mais […] est belge ». Finalement, Hasselmans fut choisi. …
