A Poem in Three Cantos' (1772). This is a play by Allan Ramsay, and an anonymous Scottish poem, published by R. and T. Duncan, Glasgow. The second is 'Works of Shakespear. In Eight Volumes. Collated and Corrected by the former Editions, By Mr. Pope. Printed from his Second Edition. Volume V' (1766), published by Robert and Andrew Foulis, Glasgow. This volume may have been produced with plates or unsold printed sheets from prior publications of the individual plays, as each has earlier copyright dates. Includes the plays Henry VI, Parts 1-3 (all three 1765), and Richard III (1758). These volumes bound together later, black leather with red leather title at spine and five raised bands; leather rubbed, scratched, scraped, with moderate to heavy edgewear. Inner hinges starting, binding else solid, and is tight through textblock. Bookplate at front paste down. Tanning, staining, and foxing throughout, and a prior owner's name inked to verso of the last contemporary page of 'Richard.' Very occasional marginal notation.

A pocket sized volume, comprising of several poems pre 1600. Nearly all the pieces to this work were adapted from the sixteenth century Bannatyne Manuscript. This manuscript is an important source for the Scots poetry of the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. Bannatyne was the collector of this work, to which he added some of his own writing. Ramsay compiled several extracts from this work for 'The Ever Green' as an attempt to reaffirm interest in older national literature. Notable poems to this work include Ramsay's version of 'Christ's Kirk' and a pastiche by Ramsay called 'The Vision'. To the rear there is an explanation of the Scots words. This is volume II of II only. Lacking volume I. ESTC No. T144558. A beautifully bound, and well preserved collection of old Scots poetry. In a full morocco binding. Externally, excellent with minor shelfwear. Stamp to the recto of front endpaper, 'John Fricker Library'. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright with just the odd spots to pages.
