Libro
Soft cover. Condición: Very Good. pp171-190. Removed from THE REGISTER OF THE KENTUCKY HISTORICAL SOCIETY , Vol. 75, No., 3, July 1977. In report covers VG. May include a first or last copied page. In 1779, when Kentucky was still a part of Virginia, about six million acres of land in the so-called Green River District in the west, were made available for settlement. To encourage military service, land bounties were awarded. At the same time, squatters and speculators appeared on the scene. Due to confusing and/or inaccurate descriptions of the claims, because of over-lapping, and odd-shaped tracts, and the government continually extending the deadlines for which payment could be made, the whole process of obtaining lands in the area that would become the state of Kentucky, became a legal nightmare that took many years to correct.

Soft cover. Condición: VG+. (1986), 306pp, index, five maps, sixteen pages of illustrations. Wrps. VG+. From the preface: "The purpose of this book is to describe the life and career of John Hunt Morgan and to evaluate his role in the Civil War. I find it intriguing that even though Morgan harassed the Union for almost thee years and won the adoration of thE Southern people, historians have dismissed him as a romantic figure who made little impact on the war. I asked, why did Morgan succeed so greatly as a leader early in the war, then decline so dramatically? Why did he risk the raid in Indiana and Ohio? Why was he the only member of his staff harmed in the skirmish that took his life? In searching for answers I have endeavored to describe what happened in Morgan's life, but I have gone beyond the facts to interpret and explain.".

Please feel free to inquire as to particulars and/or additional photographs. . John Singleton Mosby, also known by his nickname, the "Gray Ghost", was a Confederate army cavalry battalion commander in the American Civil War. His command, the 43rd Battalion, Virginia Cavalry, known as Mosby's Rangers or Mosby's Raiders, was a partisan ranger unit noted for its lightning-quick raids and its ability to elude Union Army pursuers and disappear, blending in with local farmers and townsmen. The area of northern central Virginia in which Mosby operated with impunity was known during the war and ever since as Mosby's Confederacy. After the war, Mosby became a Republican and worked as an attorney, supporting his former enemy's commander, U.S. President Ulysses S. Grant. He also served as the American consul to Hong Kong and in the U.S. Department of Justice. In exceptionally good condition In exceptionally good condition.
