This Nonesuch Press edition of 1926 is limited to 1,250 numbered copies and was the first fine-press reissue of the book. It includes three woodcut engravings by W. M. R. Quick. Irene Iddesleigh, A Novel by Mrs. Amanda McKittrick Ros. Published by The Nonesuch Press, London, 1926. Limited to 1250 copies of which this is number 39. First edition thus. The original issue was in Belfast in 1897. Includes 3 woodcut engravings by W.M.R. Quick, including frontispiece. A good to very good hardback, bound with tan leather spine and corners with printed patterned paper over boards. Gilt title to head of spine. Leather has some scuffing, bumping and wear and is chipped to head and tail of spine. With green floral endpapers, with a stain to the first free endpaper. Text is clean and bright throughout some offsetting to front and rear, and with toned edges to the rough cut pages. vii + 151pp. Dimensions: 160mm high x 136mm wide x 15mm deep. Weight approximately 272g. W.M.R. Quick (ilustrador).

Protective plastic is taped to the custom dust wrapper. In the original publisher's half morocco binding with marbled cloth to the boards. Externally, smart. Spine is faded. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine, with a small amount of loss to the tail. Light rubbing to the extremities. Cloth is very lightly cockled to the fore edges. Bookplate to the front paste down. Spots to the endpapers. Custom dust wrapper is sunned to the spine, with protective plastic taped to the reverse, and an ink inscription to the reverse. Compiled by Peter Warlock, the pseudonym of Philip Arnold Heseltine, a British composer and music critic.The Nonesuch Press specialised in limited edition and private press. They were founded by Francis Meynell, his second wife Vera Mendel and their friend David Garnett. They were unusual as they used a small Albion press to design the books, but had them printed by commercial printers. In doing so, books with the quality of a fine-press were produced, but available to a wider audience at lower prices. Bound in the publisher's original paper vellum, with the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, very good, with a little discolouration to boards and spine, and the odd mark. Boards have sprung slightly. Dust wrapper is very smart, with light edge wear and a few minor chips to the extremities. A little sunning to the spine of the wrap, wth a few spots to the front label. He begins by thanking them for sending 'a Copy of Hand work & Head work' by Baroness Martha Von Marenholtz Bülow (1810-1893), 'a book on a subject which I trust will soon attract general attention'. In his judgment 'Frau Bu low is [] very fortunate in getting so skilful a wr…iter as Miss Christie [Alice M. Christie] to interpret her in England'. He is however 'sorry the circumstances so frankly explained in the translator's preface have not had more influence on the title page. As the Baroness does not consider her work completely translated should not the title page give some hint of omissions?' He infers that 'the Baroness has lost her rights in the matter through some informality, but it seems a pity she could not have been propitiated.' He ends by asking for 'the address of Mr A. Sonnenschein the well known educational writer & lecturer'.
