Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book examines the origins of urban government in northwestern Italy from the perspective of local statutes, with a particular focus on the city of Biella in the 13th, 14th, and 15th centuries. The author, a legal historian, argues that the evolution of Biella's communal government was closely tied to the pre-existing system of rural neighborhood organizations known as "vicinie." Through a close analysis of both previously published and unpublished statutes, the book sheds light on the complex relationship between rural and urban political institutions in medieval Italy. In addition to providing new insights into the history of communal government, the book also contributes to a broader understanding of the role of law in shaping social and political change in the Middle Ages. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…
