Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book examines how to represent complex, chaotic functions as simple wave patterns using sine and cosine series. The author, a respected mathematician of his time, investigated a convergence theorem from finite to infinite series and discovered that the convergence may occur slowly near certain values. This unexpected finding extended the understanding of how series converge and diverge and demonstrated how functions that appear chaotic can be expressed with harmonic patterns. The implications of this discovery continue to resonate in modern mathematics and physics, making this book an essential read for those interested in the historical development of mathematical theories. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…

4to. [iv], 102 pp. Tables, 1 plate. Dis-bound. Very good. FIRST EDITION. "Seidel's photometric measurements of fixed stars and planets were the first true measurements of this kind. The precise evaluation of his observations by methods of probability theory, considering atmospheric extinction, are worthy of special mention. At Steinheil's suggestion Seidel derived trigonometric formulas for points lateral to the axis of an optical system; they soon became important for astronomical photography and led to the production of improved telescopes."
