4to. (89)-104 pp. Self-wraps. INSCRIBED BY KARL MULLER [see contents], with his signature. Very good. Lead article is by Dr. Otto Johannsen, "Die technische Entwicklung des deutschen Eisenhuttenwesens." Philipp Johann Heinrich Fauth (March 19, 1867 â" January 4, 1941) was a German selenographer. Born in Bad Durkheim, he worked as a schoolteacher. As an amateur astronomer, he studied the formations on the Moon with great intensity and meticulousness. He compiled an extensive atlas of the moon between 1884 and 1940 (which was not completely published until 1964 and prized today as a rare book). His Unser Mond was published in Bremen in 1936. Working from an observatory in Landstuhl, Fauth represented the moon in twenty-four sectors. Unfortunately, Fauth carried out this immense work at the same time that advances were being made in photography that allowed for a more reliable depiction of the lunar surface. â" Wikip. …

Paperback. Condición: New. Language: English. About The Book: The Moon in Modern Astronomy by Philipp Fauth and John Ellard Gore is a detailed study of lunar science based on twenty years of selenographic research. The book explores the Moon's surface features, phases, and geological structures using telescopic observations. It also addresses contemporary astronomical problems and theories related to lunar origin and behaviour. Combining scientific analysis with observational data, the work significantly contributed to early 20th-century lunar studies and remains a valuable reference in the history of astronomy. About The Author: Philipp Fauth (18671941) was a German astronomer renowned for his precise lunar maps and selenographic studies. He spent decades observing the Moon, contributing significantly to early lunar science. Fauth supported the volcanic origin theory of lunar craters and influenced astronomical thought in the early 20th century through his detailed observations. John Ellard Gore (18451910) was an Irish amateur astronomer and writer who popularized astronomy through numerous books and articles. He studied binary stars, stellar magnitudes, and the Moon. Despite limited formal training, his observational skills and clear writing helped make astronomy accessible to the public and inspired future stargazers.
