Sonst sauberes und wohlerhaltenes Exemplar. -----Inhalt. Ola Kolehmainen's photographs are extraordinarily minimal and almost exclusively depict sections of building façades. They are organized according to strict principles of order, showing rows of repetitive basic patterns or symmetrical constructs. The Minimalist austerity of these images is occasionally broken by elements that circumvent this formalism: trees or houses mirrored in the façades. Kolehmainen's works are produced using the Diasec process, which means that the environment is reflected in the surface of the photos as well as in the images themselves-a calculated component of his work. This volume presents many new, previously unpublished photographs, including two monumental five- and eight-part works by the artist. Ola Kohlemainen (*1964 inHelsinki) is a noted member of the Helsinki School, and he primarily regards his works not as photographs of specific objects, but as objets d'art.Exhibition schedule: Kiasma, Museum of Contemporary Art, Helsinki, February 26-April 26,2009 lThe National Museum of Photography, Copenhagen, May 29-August 29, 2009 l New Art Gallery Walsall, November 13, 2009-January 24, 2010 l Kuntsi Museum of Modern Art, Vaasa, March 4-May 16, 2010. Hardcover. Condición: very good-. First Edition. Number 46 of 50 deluxe copies signed by David Holman and bound in hand-woven cotton cloth. Folio, 130 pp + 7 unnumbered leaves to which are affixed 13 actual cloth samples. Important work on the evolution of clothing in nineteenth century Texas. As described in the foreword by Stanley Marcus, "this study is significant not only as a survey of what men and women wore during the frontier days of Texas, but as an explanation of how and why certain articles of apparel originated. It demonstrates the strong human desire for ornamentation and decoration that has existed from the beginning of civilization.".…

Folio. 130 pp. Fine in cloth covered boards with blind-stamped leather spine. Illustrated. Seven leaves at the rear of the volume with original cotton hand-woven cloth samples. One of 50 numbered copies SIGNED by Holman. A handsome work on the evolution of frontier clothing in 19th century Texas. Original prospectus laid in. First edition, deluxe numbered & signed issue. …

Unique copy of this book, being the only major study on the evolution of the frontier dress in Texas. David Holman and family set about traveling to various homes and sites, collecting these artifacts and photographing others prior to publication. Material was hard to come by, much of it being lost through use and severe climate over the years. The work remains a classic piece of research, writing, photography, and printing by Holman, and an exemplary fine press book of Texas and the Southwest. Texas bookman, Ben E. Pingenot, expands a bit on the publication and a similar copy from his collection (Dorothy Sloan Auction #9): "The limited edition, with 13 swatches of actual nineteenth-century pioneer Texas homespun tipped in, sold out upon publication. This copy, which is unnumbered, is labeled "deluxe variant." Unlike the 50 numbered copies, this copy along with a few others is actually bound in nineteenth-century homespun. These variant copies were reserved for the authors, their family, and a few friends." A marvelous example of a book with distinctive, beautiful design and scholarly importance. Folio, 130pp. plus [7] leaves featuring 13 authentic cloth samples. Illustrations by Pat Massey, photographs throughout. Forward by Stanley Marcus. Printer's copy, signed by Holman at the colophon with a brief description of the binding. Authentic "Texas Check" patterned cloth, woven ca. 1860, covered boards, printed on Curtis Rag paper. Fine condition First edition, limited to 50 copies, this being the printer's copy.…
