Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Fine. 1st Edition, Special Edition. New York: G. P. Putnam's Sons, The Knickerbocker Press, 1904-5, The Federal Edition. Asprey half morocco leather binding with the stamp in gilt to the marbled paper, gilt titles to the spines, five gilt decorated raised bands, blue cloth and leather covered boards, fronti…spiece to each volume, with further illustrative plates, maps and folding facsimile handwriting plates throughout. This set, beautifully bound by Asprey, when compared to the original size in the publisher's cloth bindings (9 ½ or 24cm page size) was obviously trimmed down (8 ¼ or 21cm) for the binding and gilding of the page edges. As a consequence the folding map required at page 348 of Vol III was never bound in and we have supplied a copy here loosely inserted. Collated and complete. Pagination: Vol I - xxxiv, 487pp. Vol II - xxiii, [i], 502pp, 1 Facsimile Title page plate (p48), 4 folding facsimile hand written (printed) plates of the Declaration of Independence (p200, 202, 208 and 212). Añadir al carritoHardcover. Federal Edition [No. 269 of 1000]. xxii, 532, [6] p. Frontis. Itinerary and Conronology From Wikipedia: Paul Leicester Ford (March 23, 1865-May 8, 1902) was an American novelist and biographer, born in Brooklyn. He was the great-grandson (through his mother's family) of Noah Webster and the brother of the noted histori…an Worthington C. Ford. He wrote lives of George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, and others, edited the works of Thomas Jefferson, and wrote a number of novels, which had considerable success, including The Honorable Peter Stirling (1894), Story of an Untold Love, Janice Meredith, Wanted a Matchmaker, and Wanted a Chaperon. He was murdered in his Manhattan home by his brother, Malcolm Webster Ford, at one time the most famous amateur athlete in the United States, who then committed suicide. Ford's edition of The Writings of Thomas Jefferson is still regarded as one of the monuments of American historical scholarship, setting the standard for documentary editing for half-a-century, till the appearance of the first volume of The Papers of Thomas Jefferson, edited by Julian A. Boyd. Ford's edition remains valuable for its accuracy of transcription from original manuscripts and its careful annotation of the documents chosen for publication. Ford, however, was at best cool to Jefferson, unlike Boyd, whose critics sometimes attacked him as an uncritical apologist for Jefferson. The Ford edition appeared in two versions, a ten-volume edition published between 1892 and 1896 and a twelve-volume limited numbered edition (known as the "Federal" edition) issued in 1904; other than the different breakdown of volumes, the contents of these editions are identical. Readers, however, have to take note of which edition is being used in a given scholarly work. Paul Leicester Ford is interred at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Sleepy Hollow, NY. Good. Cover has some wear and soiling.
