Scarce French colonial travel memoir and cultural study written by Rear Admiral Paul-Émile-Marie Réveillère (1829?1908) under the pseudonym Paul Branda. He served as the Commander of the French Navy in Cochinchina (southern Vietnam) from August 1884 to August 1886. The work offers firsthand insights into French gunboat diplomacy in Southeast Asia and early European romanticization of the Khmer culture and Angkor ruins.
